The Roos open play Friday against Valparaiso at 3 p.m.
Kansas City Notes
- Kansas City will look to turn its luck around, as the Roos enter the weekend on a seven-game losing skid, their longest of the season. In their most recent matchup, the Blue and Gold held No. 12 Missouri to five hits and just three runs.Â
- Camryn Stickel continues to lead the Roos from the circle, with a 3.26 ERA and 46 strikeouts thrown so far this season. She has pitched more than 77 innings across the 15 games she has made appearances in. She has also documented the most starts of any Roo pitcher with 12.Â
- In the battle with No. 12 Missouri, both Elleana Navarro and Katie Noble earned themselves singles, bringing their averages to .265 and .195 respectively. Navarro has been hot at the plate recently, going on a three game hitting streak, including her first career home run on March 3 at Tulsa.Â
- Of the teams the Roos will face this weekend, Valparaiso is the only program Kansas City did not match up with last year. Historically, the Beacons hold a win over the Roos winning 27 of the past 53 matchups. The past two games, however, have gone to Kansas City with the Roos putting up a 10-2 (5 inn.) victory over Valparaiso on Feb. 14, 2021.Â
Valparaiso Notes
- The Beacons, like the Roos, have already faced a ranked opponent this season. Valparaiso faced then No. 24 Texas A&M in the Aggie Classic during opening weekend. Valparaiso fell to the Aggies 11-0 in five innings.Â
- Last weekend, Valparaiso made a short trip for the Hoosier Classic, splitting the weekend 2-2. The Beacons notched two wins over Bowling Green to bring them to five wins on the season and dropped two games against Indiana.Â
- Sydney McDermott and Caitlyn Kowalski have split time for the Beacons in the circle so far this season throwing 42.0 and 35.1 innings respectively. McDermott has thrown 23 strikeouts so far and Kowalski is not far behind her with 14.Â
Northern Colorado Notes
- Northern Colorado recently earned its sixth win of the season with an 8-3 victory over Manhattan College on March 3. The Bears went 2-3 on the weekend picking up both wins against Manhattan College and dropping three against Iowa State.Â
- Three players currently bat above a .300 on the Northern Colorado squad. Sabrina Javorsky leads the Bears at the plate with a .367 notching 18 hits off 49 at-bats. Amailee Morales leads the Bears in RBIs with 21 earned in their 19 games this season.Â
- The Roos and the Bears faced off three times last season, with Nothern Colorado putting up three victories over Kansas City. In the final matchup, Northern Colorado won by one run 11-10. That game on March 11 went on to be Kansas City's highest-scoring matchup of the season.Â
Rider Notes
- During the last meeting between Rider and Kansas City, then-freshman, Katie Noble threw the first Kansas City no-hitter since Feb. 2019.Â
- The Broncos enter the weekend with just nine games under their belt, including four wins over Lafayette College, Towson University and two against North Carolina Central University.Â
- Both Jessie Niegocki and Kendall Reda-Fehsal are currently batting above .400 for the Broncos. Niegocki has earned 12 hits including two doubles and Reda-Fehsal leads the team in RBIs with seven in her eight appearances so far this season
Western Illinois Notes
- The Leathernecks travel to Martin, Tennessee this weekend for a series with the Skyhawks. Last weekend the Leathernecks went 3-1 picking up two wins against Greenbay and one against Bellarmine.Â
- The last meeting between the Roos and the Leathernecks was last year during conference play, prior to Western Illinois leaving the Summit League. The Blue and Gold picked up two wins against Western Illinois for their lone series win of conference play.Â
- Three Leatherneck pitchers have split time in the circle this year all notching below a 3.0 ERA. Senior Emily Price leads Western Illinois in strikeouts, notching 50 across 47.1 innings. Â
