Roos Quiet From the Plate Against Rider, Northern Colorado
3/10/2024 8:28:00 PM | Softball
Struggles from the plate kept Kansas City scoreless in both matchups
OMAHA, Neb.— Kansas City (6-18) could not get going in the batter's box, notching just six hits across its two games. The Roos fell 6-0 against Rider (5-6) in their first matchup and then dropped the second 2-0 against Northern Colorado (8-13). Bailey Brumley opened the day in the circle for the Blue and Gold, throwing a career-high six strikeouts. At the plate, Abby Husak led KC going three-for-three, but five hits for the Roos were not enough to bring home any runs, allowing the Broncos to notch their fifth win of the season. The Roos faced a similar story in game two, notching just one hit against Northern Colorado for the second day in a row. Lauren Parker earned the hit in the top of the third, but two runs from the Bears proved too much for the Roos.
KEY MOMENTS | RIDER
Kansas City returns home, hosting Western Illinois (9-10) on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
KEY MOMENTS | RIDER
- Top 1 / 0-0 | The Roos got into scoring position early with a walk, stolen base and sacrifice fly that got Husak to third base with just one out. Rider locked things down with two strikeouts to close the top of the inning. The Broncos scored in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch to give themselves a one-run advantage.
- Top 3 / 1-0 | Once again, Kansas City got itself in scoring position, this time with a single from Husak with one two outs. Husak successfully stole second, but the Broncos put a stop to Kansas City's scoring attempts earning out number three with a strikeout.
- Bottom 4 / 4-0 | Rider broke open scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning with four hits. The Roos got a handle on the situation earning a double-play and a fouled out to force three Broncos to be stranded on base.
- Top 5 / 4-0 | Chloe Kohnhorst and the Roos looked to respond to Rider's four runs. Kohnhorst doubled to left field with one out and Husak singled to shortstop with two. The Broncos got the third out with runners on first and second stifling Kansas City's scoring opportunity.
