Camryn Stickel threw a complete game, holding the Tigers below their season averages
KANSAS CITY, MO -Â Playing at home for the first time this season, Kansas City Softball (6-15) hung tight with No. 12 Missouri (18-2) but a sixth inning rally gave the Tigers a 3-0 win. Coming into the day, Missouri was averaging 6.5 runs and 8.1 hits per game, but Camryn Stickel held strong on in the circle and kept the Tigers below their season averages in both categories.
It was a pitching battle through and through, as neither team garnered a hit until the fourth inning. Kansas City was unable to break through with the bats, but got hits from Katie Noble and Elleana Navarro to make threats in the fourth and fifth innings.
KEY MOMENTS Â
- Top 1 / 0-0 | Stickel got her first strikeout of the day on the second batter, going three-up, three-down and setting the tone for the rest of her night.
- Top 4 / 0-0 | After getting through the first three innings without any trouble, Missouri was able to load the bases with two outs in the top of the fourth. Stickel forced a grounder to Sydney Nichols at short, who tossed it to Navarro at second to get out of the inning.
- Bottom 4 / 0-0 | Noble stepped up to the plate with two outs and struck a line drive through the middle for Kansas City's first hit of the day.
- Top 6 / 3-0 | Stickel was able to get the first out of the inning, but a triple on the next at-bat set the Tigers up to go on top with a single. A homer two batters later gave MU the 3-0 win after KC's attempt to rally fell short.
STATS TO NOTE
- Kansas City held the Tigers to just five hits, tied for their second-lowest single-game total on the season.
- This marked the third game against a ranked opponent that the Roos have played under the direction of Head Coach Kiki Stokes O'Connor. The three-run loss was the closest KC has been in those three games.
- Noble's fourth inning hit was her 18th of the year and brings her season batting average up to .265, good for fifth on the team.
- Stickel pitched the full seven innings, her fourth complete game of the year.
