
Kansas City Drops Senior Day Clash with Oral Roberts

Dominique Phillips went for a double-double in the loss
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Women's Basketball (12-19, 3-13 Summit) could not overcome a hot-shooting Oral Roberts (20-9, 11-5 Summit) today, falling, 94-56, in a Senior Day battle. Kansas City kept it close through the first quarter, but the Golden Eagles began to create separation in the second and never looked back.
The Roos were plagued by turnovers throughout the game, putting up 22 giveaways, which ORU converted into 31 points. Kansas City forced eight turnovers by ORU, but was only able to score three points off of turnover. It was a fast paced game and the Roos were able to attempt 71 shots, but made just 24 for a 33.8% clip from the field.
Dominique Phillips made full use of her final collegiate home game, going for 15 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high four blocks. Alayna Contreras went for 12 points and Dayshawna Carter earned her first-career start, scoring 10 points.

- 1Q - 7:54 / 7-0 | Kansas City opened the game by scoring the first seven points, getting layups from Carter and Nariyah Simmons along with a three from Contreras.
- 1Q - 2:24 / 17-17 | The Golden Eagles quickly came back and took the lead, but a layup from Carter tied the game up for the final time on the day.
- 2Q - 8:02 / 25-31 | Oral Roberts scored the first four points of the second quarter and opened up an eight-point lead, but Carter scored again for her final bucket of the day.
- 2Q - 1:03 / 30-43 | A Tamia Ugass hook shot in the paint snapped a seven-minute streak without a field goal by the Roos.
- 3Q - 3:25 / 36-60 | The Golden Eagles expanded their lead to 28 with a 15-point run, but back-to-back buckets from Phillips and Ugass got the Roos back on the board.
- 4Q - 6:36 / 46-78 | Ugass dished to Contreras for the Roos' first three pointer since the 7:54 mark of the first quarter. The Golden Eagles would coast to victory behind a 27-point fourth quarter.
STATS TO NOTE
- Phillips' double-double was the second of her collegiate career and her first as a Roo. She matched her career-high of 11 rebounds and her mark of four blocks beat her previous high of two, reached three times throughout her career.
- Contreras reached double-digit scoring for the 17th time this season, the third game in-a-row, and the eighth time in the last ten games.
- Carter earned her first start of the year and played a season-high 27 minutes, reaching double-digit scoring for the first time as a Roo.
- The Roos pulled down 19 offensive rebounds on the day, converting them into 16 points.
