Softball notches third consecutive win including a shutout victory in game one
EDWARDSVILLE, Il. -Â Kansas City (9-18) jumped to a lead in both games against SIUE (9-14) winning the first in a shutout, 2-0, and the second, 8-4. The three wins over the past two days, bring Kansas City to nine wins this season, drawing them even with last year. Camryn Stickel pitched a complete game to start the day, throwing seven strikeouts and notching her fourth win of the season. Briona Woods was a difference maker for Kansas City at the plate as she batted in the lone earned run, marking her 12th RBI of the season. Thanks to Woods's RBI and lock-down pitching from Stickel, Kansas City claimed victory in the first matchup.

KEY MOMENTS | GAME ONE
- Top 1 / 0-0 | The Roos looked to get something going early with a single from Noble with two outs. Woods then reached first on a fielding error and pushed Noble to scoring position. The Cougars, however, were able to earn out number three with a strikeout, closing the Kansas City plate appearance. In the bottom of the inning Kansas City went three up, three down with two strikeouts from Stickel to hold SIUE without a hit.
- Top 3 / 0-0 | Lauren Parker opened the inning with a single to left field Husak was walked to move her into scoring position. SIUE intervened getting three quick outs to stop the Kansas City scoring attempt.
- Top 6 / 2-0 | The Cougars started things off by walking two Kansas City batters. Vire then singled through the left side, bringing in the first run of the game with no outs. Sydney Nichols notched that allowed Noble to score on a throwing error and put Kansas City up by two runs.
- Bottom 6/ 2-0 |Stickel notched the final two outs. She struck both batters out swinging and forced the Cougars to leave one on base.
- Top 3 / 2-0 | Espy Daniels started things off with a single through the right side with just one out. She advanced to second on a ground out and was joined by Husak on first who was walked. Vire smashed a double down the center to bring in both runs and put Kansas City on the board.
- Top 4 / 6-1 | Derika Castillo got things going for KC with two outs. She singled to shortstop and Elleana Navarro then singled up the center. Castillo advanced to third on Navarro's hit and Navarro then stole second to put them both in scoring position. The Roos brought in their first run of the inning with a single from Daniels. The Roos stayed alive with two outs as Parker was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Husak and Vire then singled bringing in two more runs. The final run of the inning was forced by a Noble walk, putting the Roos up by five.
- Top 6 / 8-4 | Notching her third hit of the day, Daniels singled through the right side; Parker then did the same. Both runners advanced to scoring position. Daniels scored on a fielder's choice from Husak and the Roos brought in run number eight with a walk, securing themselves the four-run victory.
- Kansas City's 11 hits, mark the Roos' first double-digit hitting performance since Feb. 24, when the Roos notched 10 hits in their victory over Houston Christian. The Blue and Gold are 6-0 when they earn ten or more hits.
- Stickel earned seven strikeouts in the first game, bringing her to over 60 strikeouts on the season. Today marks her fourth win of the season and second save. She earned her first career save against Western Illinois on March 12.
- The Roos went without an error in their first game of the day, for their second consecutive performance without an error. The first game marks Kansas City's fourth errorless game of the season.
- It was a day of career highs for Daniels. She notched a new career-high in hits earning four in the second game. Prior to today's game Daniels's career-high was two hits which she notched against Omaha on April 6, 2022. Â In the doubleheader, Daniels led the team in runs scored, earning three runs in the second game.
