Vire Leads KC Offense in Win over Western Illinois

Kadin Vire logged a pair of RBI while Katie Noble and Camryn Stickel combined for a shutout
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -Â Kansas City (7-18) and Western Illinois (10-13) got to a steady start, with both teams runless heading into the third; the Roos then notched two hits and two runs in the bottom of the third, earning their seventh win of the season, 2-0 against the Leathernecks. The Blue and Gold played a primarily defensive game locking down two double plays, in the top of the second and another in the top of the fifth. Katie Noble and Camryn Stickel split time in the circle, throwing a combined four strikeouts. Noble came up with her second win of the season and Stickel notched her first save. From the plate, Kadin Vire was a key player for the Roos. She notched two hits in three at-bats and brought in both runs with her single in the third to win Kansas City its seventh game. Â

- Top 2 / 0-0 | Kansas City responded quickly to the Leatherneck's first hit of the day. On the next batter, the Roos fielded the ball into a double play. The ball was grounded to Nichols at shortstop, who tossed the ball to Navarro for the out at second. Navarro then threw to Brumley at first notching out number two. The Roos picked up a ground out for out number three to close the Leatherneck's plate appearance.
- Bottom 3 / 2-0 | Chloe Kohnhorst came up clutch with a single down the middle for Kansas City's first hit of the day with just one out. Lauren Parker then hit a sacrifice bunt toward first and was able to reach on an error, pushing Kohnhorst to third base. During the next at-bat, Parker stole second, giving the Roos two runners in scoring position. Vire then singled to left field bringing both runners home and putting Kansas City on the board.
- Bottom 6 / 2-0 | Vire looked to get another scoring drive together, singling down the left field line to open the Roos plate appearance. Western Illinois then notched three quick outs, including a fielder's choice, picking off Vire at second and closing the Roos' scoring attempt.
- Top 7 / 2-0 | The Roos quickly brought the game to a close, going three up, three down in the top of the seventh to end the game. Stickel earned out number three on her third strikeout of the game, consequently earning herself her first save of the season.
- Vire's two-RBI single in the bottom of the third marks her fourth two-RBI game of the season and her fifth multi-RBI game. She earned a career-high four RBIs in the 9-4 victory over UT Arlington on Feb. 17.
- All three of today's hits were earned by freshman. Vire earned two and Kohnhorst notched one.
- After a cold streak, the Roos notched their seventh win of the season and first win in ten games. This win puts Kansas City just two wins away from tying last year's record when they notched nine wins.
- Noble has gone without an earned run in three of her last six pitching appearances.
- Stickel came in and pitched three innings in relief, earning the first save of her four-year career.
