The Bison led from wire-to-wire, taking a season sweep over the Roos
KANSAS CITY – Kansas City Women's Basketball (10-15, 1-9) suffered its fifth-straight loss this evening, falling at the hands of North Dakota State (13-9, 7-2), 70-59.
After suffering four straight losses, Kansas City looked to avoid its fifth straight loss on Thursday night, beginning a mini two-game home stand against North Dakota State. The Roos started out the game great on the offensive end shooting 58% from two-point range and 50% from three in the first quarter. The problem was that the Bison shot a little better, going 10-of-16 from two point range adding in a pair three pointers. The difference in this game was the first and third quarters as the Roos were outscored by a combined 12 points in those quarters.
Towards the end of the third quarter, KC got a momentum boost after Elauni Bennett was fouled following a Nariyah Simmons three-point jump shot. Bennett split the two free throws and cut the Bison lead to six, but NDSU went on a run and entered the fourth with a 12-point lead. The Roos continued to fight, trading baskets in the beginning of the fourth quarter and using a seven-point run to draw within single digits. The Bison hit a big three-pointer to put them back up by double digits and did not look back after that.
Dominique Phillips led the Roos on the offensive end, scoring 15 points off the bench adding in four assists. Emani Bennett and Alayna Contreras each had 10 points to help with the scoring.
