Roos Clean Up Day Two at Husky Classic

The Roos notched back-to-back five inning wins over Prairie View A&M, Houston Christian
HOUSTON, Texas - Kansas City Softball (6-8) put up a third explosive victory over Prairie View A&M (4-10), winning 10-0 in five innings. Lexy Smith led the Roos at bat, with two hits and and one RBI. Another three Roos: Abby Husak, Briona Woods and Derika Castillo, notched two RBIs each in the victory. The Blue and Gold held the Panthers without a run for their first shutout victory of the season. Katie Noble and Bailey Brumley split time in the circle, throwing one strikeout each. Noble opened the game in the circle, throwing for three innings and bringing home her first win of the season. The Roos made it first to the scoreboard and stayed locked down in the field, notching their third win over the Panthers for their longest winning streak since 2022.

The Roos had their biggest inning of the season in the top of the third, bringing in ten runs. After the third, four Roos — Kadin Vire, Smith, Woods and Espy Daniels — notched two RBIs each. A home run in the top of the fifth secured the five innings win for the Roos as she brought in three runs. The Blue and Gold kept it locked down in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game in five innings.

- Top 1 / 4-0 | The Roos got to work early, loading the bases with just one out with a single from Smith. Â The next batter, Woods, hit another single up the middle bringing in two runs. Â Castillo got in on the action, hitting her own two-RBI single with two outs and bringing the Blue and Gold to four runs. In the bottom of the inning, the Panthers got runners to first and third, but a big strikeout from Nobel kept them scoreless.
- Top 3 / 6-0| The Roos loaded the bases with no outs, from a fielding error a walk and a player hit by a pitch. Two Roos were then able to cross home on an error, extending KC's lead to six.
- Top 4 / 10-0 | Another four-run inning put Kansas City up by ten. Smith got things rolling with a double that pushed Noble to third base. Nichols added another hit and the Roos scored unearned on a walk. Abby Husak's first hit of the day brought in two more runners before the Panthers could get out number three.
- Bottom 4 / 10-0| The Panthers got runners on first and third with one out. The Roos picked up a second out, by catching the runner stealing second and got out number three from a ball lined out first base.Â
- Bottom 1 / 0-2 | The Huskies made it to the score board early with a double followed by a home run. Following the scoring drive the Roos made three quick outs including a double play and a strikeout.
- Top 3 / 10-2| After a slow first two innings Kansas City came out ready in the third. Espy Daniels opened things up with a single, and after loading the bases with just one out Smith singled to bring in a run. After the first RBI, the Blue and Gold kept them rolling. Woods doubled to bring in two more and Nichols singled on the next play to bring in a fourth run. Two walks from the Huskies batted in another Kansas City run. In her second chance of the inning, Daniels knocked a double to left center, bringing in runs six and seven. A double from Vire brought in runs eight and nine and one final single from Smith brought Kansas City to ten runs.
- Top 5 / 13-3| While the Huskies snuck away with a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Roos put a stop to any chance of a rally. Daniels once again opened the inning with a single and a walk advanced her into scoring position with one out. Next at bat, Noble smashed her home run to left field, swiftly bringing in three more runs.Â
- Both Smith and Woods extended their hitting streak to ten games with hits against Prairie View A&M and Houston Christian. Smith and Woods are on the longest hitting streak since 2021 when Kloe Hilbrenner went on an 11-game hitting streak. A nine-game hitting streak is the longest two-player hitting streak since before 2020.
- Kansas City notched three consecutive wins over Prairie View A&M effectively sweeping them. This marks the first time since May 6, 2021, and May 7, 2021, when the Blue and Gold notched three consecutive wins over South Dakota State. It also marks the longest Kansas City win streak since that date. Â Â
- The Roos' 10 run inning in the top of the third against Houston Christian is their highest scoring inning of the season. The Roos notched eight runs in the first inning against BYU to open the season on Feb. 8.
- Noble's home run in the top of the fifth the eight of her career and first of the season. Prior to this home run, Noble's most recent was against St. Thomas May 5, 2023.
