The Roos face Prairie A&M in three games and Houston Christian in two
Kansas City Notes
- The Roos earned their first wins of the season over DePaul and UT Arlington. Kansas City put up a 10-7 win over the Blue Demons thanks to a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth from Lexy Smith. In their next matchup, they put up another decisive 9-4 win over UTA thanks to back-to-back homers from Woods and Smith.Â
- Camryn Stickel and Bailey Brumley led the Roos in the circle, notching their first wins of the season. Â Brumley pushed the Roos to their first win of the year against DePaul, pitching for 3.2 innings and throwing two critical strikeouts. She also made an appearance in the loss to Boise State. Stickel was an important force in the victory over UTA, throwing 4.2 innings and two strikeouts; she also pitched six innings against Michigan State, throwing three strikeouts for a combined five on the weekend.Â
- As a team, Kansas City had three standout players on offense throughout the UTA tournament. Kadin Vire, Woods and Smith combined for 16 RBIs, 19 hits and three home runs. Vire earned seven hits in 13 at-bats for a .538 average on the weekend, making her the only Roo to bat above .500. For the season as a whole, Vire is second on the team, hitting .435.Â
- Smith's grand slam against DePaul marked her first career home run. In her third year as a Roo, Smith has accrued 64 hits including 10 doubles. Â Following her grand slam, Smith went back-to-back, notching another home run in the victory over UTA. She is currently on a team-high tying six-game hitting streak.Â
- Newcomer Woods was another key player in Kansas City splitting the weekend in Arlington. Woods smashed her first home run as a Roo in the win over UTA and went back-to-back with another home run against Boise State. Thanks to Woods's and Smith's home runs, Kansas City is on its longest home run streak since Feb. of 2022.Â
