
Kansas City Holds On For Win Over Portland

Kansas City took a 14-point lead into the half and held on for a five-point victory
PORTLAND - Kansas City Men's Basketball (5-7) jumped out early and were able to fend off a late comeback attempt by Portland (3-7)Â this evening, claiming a 69-64 victory. The Roos were able to pick up their first road win of the season through hot shooting from beyond the three-point line and a pestering defense that converted turnovers into easy points.
Making his second-straight start, Babacar Diallo provided a spark for Kansas City. The 2023-24 Summit League All-Defensive Team member caused multiple turnovers, facilitated the offense and came up with some big buckets to aid KC's winning effort. Jamar Brown went for his fourth 20-point effort of the season while Cameron Faas and Jayson Petty each joined him in double-digits.

- 1H - 15:26 / 10-7 | Diallo came up with an early interception, his first steal of the day. He pushed the ball the other way and found Petty for a triple to give the Roos the lead.
- 1H - 7:49 / 19-20 | Portland went on a nine-point run to take the lead, but Diallo triggered a ball to Brown for a three-pointer that sparked a six-point response by the Roos and gave them the lead for good.

- 1H - 0:06 / 44-30 | Late in the half, Davontae Hall sent a pass to Ring Nyeri for a three, putting the finishing touches on a 10-3 run to end the first stanza.
- 2H - 12:34 / 51-40 | Portland opened up the second half on a 10-5 run, ended when Diallo found Petty in traffic for a hook shot.
- 2H - 8:04 / 61-49 | Diallo dished another assist, finding Faas for a long-range three that extended the lead back to double-digits.
- 2H - 2:56 / 63-58 | The Pilots went on a nine-point run over the span of five-plus minutes, but Brown took a drive to the rim, flipping the ball up and finishing through contact to give the Roos a much-needed bucket.
- 2H - 1:35 / 65-62 | Leading by just a point, Diallo hit a mid-range floater and came up with a stop on the other end. Brown went 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the game's final 30 seconds to secure the win.
