
Kansas City Closes Puerto Rico Clasico on a High Note

Kopp & Petty poured in 18 points each in the Roos commanding 33-point win over the Gallitos
SAN JUAN, P.R. - On the final day of the Puerto Rico Clasico, Kansas City (4-4) delivered their first win of the tournament, defeating Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras (0-3) by way of an 88-55 victory on Sunday afternoon. The Roos performed consistently well on offense, scoring over 40 points in both halves and shooting 59% from the floor for the game and 64% in the second half alone.Â
Another difference maker for the Roos was their second half defense, which held the Gallitos to 22 points on 31% shooting. The Roos saw four starters reach double figure marks in scoring with Anderson Kopp and Jayson Petty leading the way scoring with 18 points each.Â

- 1H - 17:19 / 9-3 | The Roos started off active on both sides of the ball as Kasheem Grady completed a fast break opportunity set up by Babacar Diallo. A few seconds later, Grady stole a throw-ahead pass to generate a turnover for the Roos and Kopp completed the run by knocking down a mid-range jump shot.Â
- 1H - 8:55 / 25-13 | As Puerto Rico climbed back into the contest, the Roos kept them at bay with a big time three pointer from Ring Nyeri, the first of three buckets from behind the arc for the freshman.Â
- 1H - 2:18 / 41-29 | The Roos lit up the city of San Juan with an electrifying alley-oop jam thrown down by Blake Ammons and assisted by Davontae Hall to give Kansas City a dozen point lead in the first half.Â
- 2H - 11:13 / 59-44 | Kansas City kept up its hot shooting in the second half with Kopp delivering another three point dagger from the left side of the arc to put the Roos up by 15.Â
- 2H - 8:04 / 70-49 | Part of the Roos explosive 18-5 second half run was Grady charging into a defender with a full head of steam and converting the one handed floater to help salt away the Gallitos for good. Â

Kansas City shot 59% from the field and 43% from the field, making it the second time the Roos have shot over 50% from the field and 40% from three in a game this season. The first time was the Roos dominant win over Calvary last Monday.Â

Jayson Petty totaled 18 points on 6-7 shooting from the floor, his highest point total since January 21 when the sophomore scored 21 points against South Dakota. Petty is also on a nine game double figure scoring streak.Â

Anderson Kopp finished with 18 points on 7-13 shooting with four three pointers. Kopp has three games of 18-plus points this season and 12 of them in his career.Â
