Mahgoub Breaks 12-Year-Old Record at Black and Gold Invite

Rivera secures victory in the 800m race in Iowa City with a time of 2:17.18.
IOWA CITY, Iowa - Kansas City travelled to Iowa City to compete in the Black and Gold Invitational at the University of Iowa. Abdelrahim Mahgoub made the most of the meet, securing second place in the 800m with a time of 1:51.70, setting new personal, meet, and school records. Mahgoub surpassed Alex Pena-Lopez's 2011 record of 1:52.36. Sophomore Alanie Rivera emerged as the event winner in the 800, dominating the field with a personal best of 2:17.18. Rivera now holds the fastest times in the 600m and 800m for the Roos this season.
Teresa Thomas reduced her indoor personal record from 57.69 to 56.48 while finishing in fourth place at the invite. Freshman Kenechukwu Okpareke continued to make his mark on this inaugural season, securing second place in the 60m with a time of 6.71. Jaleesa McWashington achieved a season best in the long jump with a leap of 5.67m, tying for sixth in the league, and Benjamin Owere also recorded a season best in the men's triple jump with a distance of 14.00m, placing him sixth in the Summit League standings.
