Roos Take on Kansas in Cross-Border Matchup on Thursday

The Roos and Jayhawks will meet as Head Coach Jess Smith plays host to her alma mater for the first time
Kansas City Notes
- The Roos had their second 16-shot performance of the season in their matchup against the University of Illinois Chicago. Brianna Castleberry, Kayda Kamolz and Caijah Anderson put up four shots a piece. The Roos' other season-high 16-shot game was against Southern Illinois.
- Junior midfielder Kamolz documented goals in both the Southern Illinois and University of Illinois Chicago matchups. Kamolz got the Roos on the scoreboard first with her goal in each game. Kamolz's goal against the Salukis was her first career goal and her goal over the University of Illinois Chicago, puts her first on the team in goals with two.
- Three Roos have earned assists this season two of which were made during the season opener against Lindenwood. Castleberry, Sophia Smith and Lily Stedman lead the Roos in assists with one a piece.
- Sophomore midfielder Brianna Castleberry has been on the offensive for the Roos. Castleberry leads the team in shots with 11 and shots on goal with five, creating several scoring opportunities for the Roos.
- Junior goalkeeper Riley Moore has been a powerhouse for the Roos in the box. Moore has earned 30 saves so far this season. She has had three appearances with five or more saves against Iowa, Saint Louis and UIC. In the matchups against Saint Louis and UIC, Moore put up a career-high tying nine stops.
University of Kansas Notes
- The Jayhawks have not lost a game this season, documenting three wins and three draws in their first six games.
- The Jayhawks have only trailed two games so far against Loyola Chicago and Missouri. In the matchup against the Tigers, the Jayhawks trailed 1-0 in the first half but got to goal first in the second half to tie the score. The Jayhawks went on to draw with the Tigers 2-2. In its game against Loyola Chicago the Ramblers were first on the scoreboard but Kansas came back to win 4-1.
- Junior midfielder and forward, Hallie Klanke has played a crucial role for the Jayhawks this season. Kalanke began her career at North Carolina where she played for two years. Kalanke then red-shirted her junior year and transferred to Kansas in 2022. In her first season with the Jayhawks, Klanke has made a name for herself, leading the team in both goals and assists. Klanke has started in all six games, documenting three goals and five assists. She is tied for second on the team in shots on goal with seven.
- Kansas City head coach, Jess Smith played soccer at Kansas from 2002-2005. This will be coach Smith's second time facing Kansas as a head coach and her first time playing them at home in Durwood Stadium. The last time the Roos and Jayhawks met was Sep. 8, 2022, and the Jayhawks put up a 3-0 win.
