Kansas City equalized just two minutes after KU's goal and earned the first result against the Jayhawks in program history

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City's Women's Soccer played a fierce game against the University of Kansas this evening, earning the first result against the Jayhawks in program history, 1-1. The Roos played with intensity, as goalkeeper Riley Moore had three paramount saves in the first half to keep KU scoreless. After Kansas scored in the 50th minute to take a lead, KC struck back just two minutes later with Brianna Castleberry's first-career goal and the game remained tied the rest of the way for a draw.

KEY MOMENTS

11' / 0-0 | Moore made an exhilarating save at the beginning of the game to set the tone for the rest of the match.
16' / 0-0 | Once again Moore shocks opponents with another astonishing stop keeping Kansas from scoring until the 2nd half.
39' / 0-0 | Caijah Anderson let the Roos' first shot of the day fly from long range, banging it off the crossbar and out.
46' / 0-0 | Kayda Kamolz had a look at an open goal early in the second half, but a Kansas defender cleared the ball off the line to keep the game scoreless.
52' / 1-1 | Two minutes after Kansas took the lead, Castleberry took a throw in and cut across the middle of the field, letting a left-footed shot fly from beyond the box and scoring to equalize the game.

81' / 1-1 | In the game's closing minutes, the Roos earned a corner kick. Anderson sent the ball into the box and Sophia Limongi was able to put a head on it, but the attempt was high of the mark.

STATS TO NOTE

Moore ended the game with five saves, adding to her already 30 this season and keeping with the average number of saves against the Jayhawks.
The Roos utilized their bench with a collective 18 substitutions throughout the game, nine in each half.
The Roos put up their first goal in program history against the Jayhawks. The teams had previously met three times since 2014, with KU outscoring KC 7-0 in those matchups.
After entering the game with a team-leading 11 shot attempts, Castleberry was finally able to find the back of the net for her first career goal with the Roos.
The draw gives Kansas City its first result against a Power Five opponent in the Jess Smith era, and the first overall since Sep. 14, 2018 when the Roos took down Iowa State.
