Kansas City had little trouble with ORU, led by a highly efficient attack
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Volleyball made quick work of Oral Roberts this afternoon, sweeping past the Golden Eagles, 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-16). Odyssey Warren led the Roos' potent attack with 13 kills on .357 hitting, followed closely by Kaia Dunford with nine kills and Carly Gillen with eight. Reigning Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week Leah Green was the Roos leader in the back line, digging up 16 attacks and adding six service aces.Â
SET BY SET
- SET ONE / 25-12 | Kansas City got out to a quick start, jumping out to a 10-5 lead behind four early kills from Warren and forcing an Oral Roberts timeout. The Roos did not slow down from there, swinging at a high percentage and holding the Golden Eagles to a negative hitting percentage. Sydney Henry set up Kimora Whetstone in the middle for a big swing that gave the Roos a 21-10 lead, and KC coasted to victory from there.
- SET TWO / 25-15 | Oral Roberts took a 2-1 lead to start the second set, but Kansas City rattled off the next five points using two kills each from Warren and Dunford, as well as one from Whetstone. The Roos maintained a slim lead throughout the set, until Leah Green stepped up to serve and sent across back-to-back service aces, extending the Roos' advantage to 19-12. Kansas City closed the set out with Caroline Keithley on serve, and a block by Henry and Whetstone gave the Roos a two-set advantage.
- SET THREE / 25-16 | The Roos found success with Dunford in the front row to start the third set, sending across a pair of kills in the early stages as KC built up a 10-5 lead. The Golden Eagles began to draw closer, but for the second time in the match, Green sent across two-straight aces. Then Gillen took over, using three kills in-a-row to give the Roos an 18-11 lead. The Roos never looked back and a block by Dunford and Whetstone completed the dominant win.
STATS TO NOTE
- Kansas City hit .349 as a team, the Roos' second-highest hitting percentage in a match this season. KC has swung above a .300 clip in three matches this year, all wins.
- In the first set, the Roos held ORU to -.034 hitting, and limited the Golden Eagles to .088 hitting across the full match.
- Green finished with six total aces, a career-high. She is the third Roo this season to tally five-plus aces in a single match, joining Blair Taylor and Dunford.
- This marked the Roos' fourth sweep of the season and was the third time that they did not allow an opponent to reach the 20-point mark in any sets.
