Utah Valley scored early and never looked back, holding the Roos out of goal
OREM, Utah - In opener of the 2023 season, Kansas City Men's Soccer came away from Utah Valley with a disappointing result, falling, 4-0. The Wolverines first found the back of the net in the 10th minute, and the onslaught continued throughout the remainder of the game.
KEY MOMENTS
- 7' / 0-0 | The Roos looked dangerous early as Edson Murguia sent a pass to Luke Hoelting deep in the UVU box. Hoelting's touch was a bit heavy, however, and the Wolverine keeper pounced on the ball.
- 10' / 1-0 | A quick throw-in led to an opportunity for Utah Valley, slotting the ball past Stefano Camerlengo and into the back of the net.
- 34' / 1-0 | Mael Caisson sent a beautiful through ball to Brice Middleton in his collegiate debut, making a run and sending the Roos' first shot on-goal of the day, but a kick-save was made by UVU's keeper.
- 37' / 2-0 | Just minutes later, a miscommunication in the back line led to another Wolverine goal.
- 40' / 2-0 | On of the Roos' best opportunities of the night came from the foot of Christian Koffi, sending a blazing shot towards goal that the Utah Valley keeper made a leaping save on.

- 54' / 3-0 | Utah Valley added to the lead early in the second half. Camerlengo made a diving save on the initial shot, but the rebound fell right to the foot of a Wolverine player.
- 55' / 3-0 | Julien Le Bourdoulous set up for a free kick from the left side of the box and attempted a bouncing shot towards the near post. However, UVU's keeper was keen and made the save.
- 66' / 4-0 | A ball played to the center of the goal was easily scored on by Utah Valley, cementing the final score.
STATS TO NOTE
- In his Kansas City debut, Le Bourdoulous led the Roos' shot tally, attempting three shots and placing one on goal.
- The Roos made three saves on the night, two by Camerlengo and one by Cade Martin, clearing a ball away from the goal mouth.
- Seth Kacich and Samuel Nagy both played the full 90 minutes for Kansas City.
UP NEXT
The Roos remain on the road for a game on Sunday, traveling to Bradley for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The two teams played at Durwood Soccer Stadium last season, with KC coming away with a 3-2 victory.
