The Roos got behind early, and a strong second half was not enough to rally
IOWA CITY, Iowa — Kansas City kicked off its stretch of away games in a 2-0 loss against Iowa. The Hawkeyes managed two quick goals early in the first half and stayed sharp. Even with aggressive play in the second half, the Roos were unable to convert, falling short of a comeback.
KEY MOMENTS
Kansas City continues its road trip, heading to Carbondale, Ill. The Roos will take on the Southern Illinois Salukis Thursday at 7 p.m.
KEY MOMENTS
- 7'/ 0 -0 | The Hawkeyes saw their first chance to get on the board, but a save by Riley Moore in the top left corner keeps the match scoreless.
- 20' / 0-1| Following five saves from Moore, Iowa was able to poke one through to get on the board.
- 24'/ 0-1 | Freshman Maya Prehm looked to stage a response, but the shot went just over the goal. This was Prehm's third shot of the season. Iowa retaliated, knocking in another goal.
- 49' / 0-2 | Kansas City came out hot in the second half. Brianna Castleberry forced two Iowa saves in the first five minutes. Castleberry saw back-to-back opportunities, firing a shot to the top left and another to the bottom left, but neither found the net.
- Moore documented a career-high nine saves in the matchup. She earned six saves in the matchup against Oral Roberts last year.
- Including the two shots on goal tonight, Castleberry leads the team in shots with seven. She also leads the team in shots on goal and assists with three and one, respectively.
- Game-time was delayed due to high temperatures; substitutions played a crucial role for both teams. Only three players across both teams played the full 90 minutes, and Moore was the only Roo to play the entire game. The Roo bench played a combined 284 minutes.
- This was the second time the Roos have faced the Hawkeyes in program history. Kansas City lost to Iowa in 2021, in a 2-0 contest.
