KANSAS CITY, Mo. – As Benaud Shirley enters his fifth year as head coach, he will embark on a quest for success with the Kansas City Cross Country team, tackling the challenges presented by demanding cross country courses.
The Roos are poised to create a significant impact during their season opener on Sep. 2 at the Bob Timmons Classic, followed by another exciting race at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Sep. 15. Notably, both of these teams were participants in the 2022 NCAA Championships in their respective divisions.
While many of the courses may present a fresh and exciting challenge, the Roos have made a strategic addition to their roster with the inclusion of distance experts Jentrie Alderson and Emily Diercks. This infusion of talent is set to provide strong leadership to the Women's team. Alderson brings an impressive track record with four 3A Kansas State distance titles to her name, showcasing her prowess in the field. On the other hand, Diercks boasts the accolade of being an NCJAA Indoor 3K National champion, further contributing to the team's formidable capabilities.
The regular season schedule is composed of four meets. The Roos will travel to meets at Kansas, Missouri Southern and Missouri, closing out their non-conference in Ashland, Neb. at the Platte River Rumble as KC looks to compete against multiple national qualifiers before heading to The Summit League Championships.
