
Kansas City Softball Drops Two Against SDSU

The Jackrabbits maintain their undefeated Summit League Record
KANSAS CITY, Mo – Kansas City (8-39, 3-14) dropped both games in its doubleheader against South Dakota State University (31-15, 13-0). In game one, the Roos earned one run in the third off an Ally Vonfeldt double, but SDSU responded with two runs in the fourth. The Jackrabbits pitching outlasted the Roos' offense giving them the 3-1 win. In game two, SDSU jumped out to an eight-run lead in the top of the first. KC plated two off Vonfeldt's second double on the day but it wasn't enough to come back.
GAME 1 KEY MOMENTS
- Top 1 / 0-1 | SDSU opened the game with a lead-off triple, scoring one off a sacrifice fly. The Roos got three quick putouts, including SDSU caught stealing by Amelia Fitzgerald to end the inning.
- Top 2 / 0-1 | The Roos went three-up, three-down, including two Katie Noble strikeouts.
- Bottom 2 / 0-1 | Lexy Smith knocked the first hit of the day for the Roos with a two-out single to left.
- Bottom 3 / 1-1 | With one out, Ally Vonfeldt doubled down the left-field line.
- Bottom 4 / 1-3 | Smith singled to left-center for her second hit of the day. The Jackrabbits scored two in the top half of the inning.
- Top 5 / 1-3 | Sydney Nichols made a difficult, over-the-shoulder catch and throw to put the runner out at first for a double play.
GAME 2 KEY MOMENTS
- Top 1 / 0-8 | SDSU led off the first with a grand slam. They plated eight jumping out to an early lead. Danielson came into pitch and got the Roos out of the inning with a strikeout.
- Top 3 / 0-14 | Karnatz made a diving stop and the force-out at second base. SDSU scored two in the second and four more in the third.
- Bottom 3 / 3-14 | Nichols started the inning with a lead-off single. After a walk, Vonfeldt doubled down the right field line, plating two. Two batters later, Karnatz grounded out to the right side, bringing in Vonfeldt to score.
- Top 5 / 3-14 | With a runner in scoring position, the Roos earned three straight outs to end the inning, including a Bailey Brumley strikeout.
- Vonfeldt's two doubles on the day put her at 12 for the season, leading the team.
- Fitzgerald caught two runners stealing in game one.
- Nichols's double play in game one puts her at ten on the season to lead the team.
- The Roos had a low number of at-bats with only 19 in game two. Their only appearance with fewer at-bats was March 25 versus North Dakota State, where they had 16.
