Roos Fall to Denver in Close Matchup

Moore put up a career-high ten saves but Roos’ offense could not find the back of the net
DENVER, Colo. — Kansas City Women's Soccer (2-5-7, 1-2-2) put its defense to the test against Denver (9-1-5, 5-0-1) falling 1-0 against the first team in the Summit League. The Roos faced 20 shots from the Pioneers and 15 corner kicks. Both Anna Jennings and Caijah Anderson fired off shots for the Roos in the first half, but Jennings was the lone Roo to land a shot on frame. Moore earned her ninth save of the night on a penalty kick to hold Denver to one goal on the night.

The Roos travel to Omaha for their last road game of the regular season. Kansas City will take on the Mavericks (4-4-5,1-1-3) Sunday a 1 p.m. before returning home for the final two games of the regular season.

- 9' / 0-0 | Riley Moore earned the first save of the night to keep the game scoreless. The shot from Denver went to the low left center but Moore made the stop smothering the ball.
- 21' / 0-0 | The Pioneers made another drive to goal, but Moore stepped up. On the next play, Denver shot one high and Moore knocked it over the net to hold the Pioneers at zero.
- 26' / 0-0 | The Roos organized an offensive drive with Madison Page bringing the ball down the field. Page knocked the ball over to Jennings who fired off the Roos' first shot of the night, but the Pioneers' keeper made her only save of the game.
- 35'/ 1-0 | On their 10th shot of the night and sixth shot on goal, Denver found the back of the net.
- 49' / 1-0| Denver strung together another offensive push, but Moore stepped up, blocking the shot. Sophia Limongi followed Moore's block and cleared the ball.
- 73'/ 1-0 | The Pioneers drew a penalty in the box and headed to the line for a penalty kick. Moore made a crucial save, holding Denver scoreless in the second half.

The Roos went short on the kick, passing the ball to Brianna Castleberry who knocked it into the box. Castleberry found Sophia Limongi got a head on the ball but was not able to put it on frame.
- Moore put up five saves in the first half and another five in the second to earn a career-high ten saves. Prior to this game, Moore's career high was nine-saves which she earned on three occasions against Iowa, Colorado State and Tulsa. Her ten saves tonight bring her to an even 70 on the season.
- The Pioneers earned eight corner kicks in the first half and another seven in the second half for a total of 15 corner kicks. This was the most corner kicks by an opponent since the 17 Oral Roberts' corner kicks on Oct. 2, 2022.
- Limongi and Moore were the only two Roos to play for the full 90 minutes. Moore leads the team in minutes with 1,245 on the season and Limongi is not far behind with 1,235. The next closest Roo on playing time is Sophia Smith who trails Moore by 100 minutes.
