
Softball Travels to Omaha for Final Road Series

The Roos will look to win their fourth conference series
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City will complete their last conference road series in Omaha this weekend. The Roos currently sit as the five-seed in the conference tournament with six games remaining in Summit play. First pitch of the double-header against the Mavericks is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Omaha on Saturday. The series will wrap up with a single game at noon on Sunday.

- In his third season at the helm of Kansas City Softball, Head Coach Kerry Shaw scheduled a strong lineup of teams, including games against 12 ranked or receiving votes opponents. Shaw wrapped up his first complete season with the Roos last year, finishing with the first winning season in a decade and first win over a ranked team in program history.
- This game against No. 1 Oklahoma marks the 8th matchup against teams in the top-25 of the RPI and the 18th against teams in the top-60. Therefore, nearly half of the Roos' games have been against top-60 caliber teams.
- Kloe Hilbrenner has been the senior leader on offense in the leadoff spot of the lineup. She is currently hitting .368, a .610 slugging percentage, with 50 hits, 10 doubles, four triples, five homeruns and 27 stolen bases; all top-ten in the Summit thus far.
- Hilbrenner has recorded a 7-game and 8-game hit streak on two occasions this season. She also has 18 multi-hit games, including a four-hit game against Kennesaw State on March 6th.
- Designated hitter, Delainey Fenoglio, follows with a .314 batting average, a team-leading six homeruns and 23 RBI and a team-low 13 strikeouts. She earned Summit League Player of the Week honors on March 7 after her performance at the Razorback Rumble where she hit .571.
- With Fenoglio's homerun against Kansas on April 12, she moved into sixth on the all-time career homeruns list with 16.
- Katherine Karnatz made her first appearance this season against South Dakota State after returning from injury. She played four games at shortstop and hit in the six-spot of the lineup, recording a double in her first hit this season.
- Roos' first baseman, Katelyn Garcia, leads all position players with a .992 fielding percentage and 231 putouts, with just two errors in 238 chances.
- Rightfielder, Marina Karnes, has just one error in the outfield with 38 putouts. She is also hitting .272, third best in the KC lineup.
- Transfer Sydney Nichols, from Wichita State, has brought more power to Kansas City's lineup with four homeruns on the season and 14 RBI.
- Ally Vonfeldt tallies up extra-base hits for the Roos, hitting seven doubles, two triples and two homeruns this season with a .382 slugging percentage. Her 15 homeruns in her career is good for seventh on the all-time homeruns list in program history.
- Alexis D'Ambrosio has a keen eye, leading the team with 18 walks and some pop in the bat with two homeruns, one triple, and four doubles this season.
- Kansas City has hit 22 homeruns this season thus far, with eight different Roos contributing.
- Kansas City has a five-man pitching staff, starred by senior ace, Mia Hoveland, who currently has 367 career strikeouts. Hoveland has thrown seven complete games in conference play. In those complete games, the opposition earned just six earned runs in 49 innings pitched, while striking out the opposition 35 times.
- KC received a sophomore transfer, Casey Stout, from North Central Missouri College who recorded a 25-3 record last season with 281 strikeouts, second-best in the NJCAA in 2021. Her strongest performances are when she came on in relief against North Dakota and St. Thomas, pitching 8.2 innings, recording a 0.00 ERA, while only allowing five hits and recording nine strikeouts.
- The Roos also return sophomore Camryn Stickel, who finished her freshman campaign with a 14-9 record on the mound. Stickel has appeared in six conference games, pitching 25 innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out 10 batters.
- The 2022 freshman class is comprised of four impact players. Sydney Reid and Lexy Smith will see time on the infield, while Audrey Danielson and Jenna Milan will make appearances in the pitching rotation.
- This will be the 17th meeting between the Mavericks and just the third time KC will play in Omaha.
- Coming into this week, Omaha has a 23-12 overall record with 11-4 record in Summit play.
- The Mavs currently stand in second place in the Summit standings with two conference series remaining.
- Junior pitcher Camryn Meyer and senior infielder Jamie White were picked 2022 Summit League Players to Watch.
- Omaha has the best fielding percentage (.981), second-best staff ERA (2.49) and second-best team batting average (.284) in the league.
- Jamie White and Izzy Eltze both lead the offensive with each of them hitting over .350 and combing for 16 homeruns.
- Omaha is aggresive on the base paths, successfully stealing 39 bases in 42 attempts this season.
- Camryn Meyer is the ace in the circle, taking on most of the production. She has pitched 131 innings this season with 230 strikeouts and a 1.23 ERA.
- The other three Omaha pitchers have combined for 104 innings pitched and 71 strikeouts.
