KC hit four homeruns in game two but drops game to Kennesaw State

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Kansas City Softball (4-13) got retribution against Missouri State (4-10) behind the arm of Mia Hoveland who recorded seven strikeouts in the 3-2 victory. In an exchange of long balls, the Roos' four homeruns weren't enough to defeat Kennesaw State (5-11) in the 8-10 final.

Top 1 / 0-2 | A two-out homerun brought in two for the Bears early.
Bottom 2 / 1-2 | Alexis D'Ambrosio drew a walk and came around on Delainey Fenoglio's double, then eventually scored on a wild pitch to get the Roos within one.
Top 4 / 1-2 | Mia Hoveland escaped danger in the fourth with two strikeouts, tallying four on the day.
Bottom 5 / 3-2 | Kloe Hilbrenner tripled to bring in Ashley Thorne, who came into pinch run for Katelyn Garcia that reached on a walk. Then Fenoglio got a two-out hit to bring in Hilbrenner to capture the lead.
Top 7 / 3-2 | Mia Hoveland finished with seven strikeouts, including two in the final frame to secure the victory.

Marina Karnes and Delainey Fenoglio had two hits apiece in the game.
Hilbrenner was the only other Roo to record a hit in the game, using her speed to stretch a triple, her second triple of the season.
Hoveland finished with seven strikeouts, giving up only four hits and two earned runs. She moves to 318 strikeouts, which is fourth most career strikeouts in program history.

GAME 2 | Kennesaw State-10 v KC-8 | KEY MOMENTS

Bottom 1 / 0-3 | Kennesaw State came out with five hits to produce three runs in the first.
Bottom 1 / 4-3 | The Roos responded by hitting through the lineup, sparked by a leadoff homerun from Hilbrenner. Six of KC's nine batters got hits their first time up to the plate.
Bottom 2 / 7-3 | The runs kept flowing for the Roos with two more homeruns off the bats of Alexis D'Ambrosio and Fenoglio.
Top 5 / 6-7 | After two innings of scoreless softball on both sides, Kennesaw State used a two-run homerun and four hits to bring the game within one run.
Bottom 5 / 6-8 | Faith Denning immediately responded with a leadoff homerun in the fifth inning.
Top 6 / 10-8 | Casey Stout gave up a grand slam and Kennesaw State regained the lead.

Kansas City hit four homeruns, which ties a program record for most homeruns in a single game. The last time the Roos hit that mark was in their victory over Missouri State on March 30, 2021.
Fenoglio and Hilbrenner both recorded their third homeruns of the season.
D'Ambrosio and Denning both hit their first homerun of the season. This is the first career homerun for Denning and D'Ambrosio's first long ball since Feb. 27, 2021.
Fenoglio went 3-for-4 at the plate in game two of the day and is 7-of-11 on the weekend thus far.
