Kansas City Earns Walk-Off Victory to Split Day against UND

Karnes drove in walk-off run and Stout earned first win in the circle

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Softball (5-21, 1-1) walked-off a win in game two to split their conference opener with North Dakota (11-23, 1-1). Both games went into extra innings with game one going the way of the Fighting Hawks, 0-2. Then Marina Karnes secured the victory for the Roos in game two, 4-3, with a walk-off hit up the middle to score Katie Slauson.

GAME 1 | UND-2 v KC-0 | KEY MOMENTS

Bottom 1 / 0-0 | Kloe Hilbrenner led the game off with a hit but was caught stealing and the game remained scoreless through one.
Top 4 / 0-0 | Mia Hoveland dished out her fourth strikeout of the game to end the fourth frame on defense.
Bottom 6 / 0-0 | Delainey Fenoglio's hard struck ball ricocheted off the pitcher's foot to get the inning started with a hit, but the UND defense shut down the scoring threat.
Top 7 / 0-0 | Karnes made a great diving catch in the outfield and Hoveland finished the inning off with her sixth strikeout.
Bottom 7 / 0-0 | Another KC runner was thrown out on the bases which squashed the Roos' momentum in the seventh and sent the game to extra innings.
Top 8 / 2-0 | A two-out double scored two for the Fighting Hawks and led to the eventual North Dakota victory.

STATS TO NOTE

Hilbrenner was the lone Roo to earn multiple hits in the game.
Ally Vonfeldt had KC's lone multi-base hit with a double in the eighth inning, her sixth double of the season.
Hoveland tallied six strikeouts and seven scoreless innings in the circle for Kansas City.

Bottom 1 / 0-1 | The Roos hopped on top first with an RBI from Sydney Nichols that scored Hilbrenner from third.
Bottom 4 / 1-2 | Faith Denning jumped on the first pitch for a one-out base hit and Hilbrenner brought her in with a hit of her own.
Top 5 / 2-2 | North Dakota brought in one run and loaded the bases, but Casey Stout came into pitch and recorded two strikeouts to get out of the inning.
Top 6 / 2-2 | Denning denied UND from stealing a base and Stout followed with two more strikeouts to keep the score tied.
Bottom 7 / 3-3 | The Fighting Hawks scored one, but KC responded with a triple by Hilbrenner and an RBI hit by Fenoglio to send the game to extra innings.
