The Roos picked up a point in doubles, but dropped some tight singles matches
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Kansas City Women's Tennis started off hot, but could not pull out a victory against South Dakota this evening, falling 4-3. The Roos picked up the doubles point for the second time this year, but ultimately fell in yet another one-point decision.
"South Dakota played well and was motivated to avenge their loss from last year," Head Coach Kendell Hale said. "They played the big point better, and we now have to look at our third 4-3 loss of the season."
Kansas City found a stride with Michela Xibilia and Anastassiya Timofeyeva playing at the one doubles spot and Grace Ball and Eva Kresovic at the two spot, earning the doubles decision. Both teams won by a score of 6-3, with Ball and Kresovic picking up their fourth-straight doubles victory.
With the start of singles play came a swing of momentum in the Coyotes' direction. USD picked up four first set victories, setting the tone to take four singles points. KC's Laura Munoz-Baroja picked up a point at the three-spot via an injury default, and Riddhi Sharma won in a three-set thriller at the six-spot. Timofeyeva forced a third set in four singles, but fell, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
"We are playing without our solid Spanish player, Joanna Cardona, but Riddhi came up big today at six singles," Hale said. "We are finally playing doubles better."
The Roos are back in action at home next week, taking on Cincinnati this Tuesday at 2 p.m.
