The Roos battled off seven match points and won four three-setters for their first win of the season
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Kansas City Tennis (1-3) fought back from the brink of defeat, taking down Missouri State for the team's first win of the season, 4-3. The Roos battled off multiple match points and needed four three-set victories to steal the win.
"Tight was an understatement for this match," Head Coach Kendell Hale said. "We fought off seven match points to come up with the first win of the season. Grace, Michela, Nastia and Joanna all fought from behind to give us our four points. I loved the fight of the girls today and it was great to finally be on the positive side of a 4-3 win."
The signs of a tight match showed right away in doubles play. The Bears earned the point, but needed a tiebreaker at one doubles and won by a single break at two doubles. At three doubles, Grace Ball and Eva Kresovic earned their first win of the season, 6-3.
The stage was set for a singles battle. Ball, Michela Xibilia, Joanna Cardona and Anastassiya Timofeyeva all dropped their first sets, giving Missouri State the clear edge.Â
Then, the Roos came roaring back. Ball and Xibilia each fought off multiple match points to win their second sets before easing to third-set victories. Cardona made quick work in the second and third sets, winning both by a 6-1 count. Finally, Timofeyeva earned the clincher, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Kansas City hosts its first home match next Saturday, welcoming Bradley to town at 2 p.m.
