Shemarri Allen had a career night, finishing with 19 points, six boards and four assists
BATON ROUGE, La. - Kansas City Men's Basketball never conceded in Wednesday evening's game against LSU, fighting for all 40 minutes in the 74-63 loss. Shemarri Allen led the charge for the Roos, scoring 17 of his 19 points in the second half, including a pair of three-pointers that kept Kansas City in the game. Allen did more than score the ball, adding six rebounds, four assists and three steals. RayQuawndis Mitchell was the only other Roo in double-digits, finishing with 15, while Promise Idiaru had a standout game, posting nine points and 10 rebounds.

- 1H / 9-12 | The Tigers jumped out to a 12-4 lead early, but a triple by Mitchell, followed by a second chance layup a minute later brought the Roos back within three.
- 1H / 22-25 | LSU got back out to a seven-point lead, but a pair of free throws by Allen, followed by a steal-and-score by Allen David Mukeba Jr. in the fast break kept Kansas City tight with just over seven minutes remaining in the half.

- 1H / 32-34 | A layup by Pro. Idiaru capped a 7-0 Kansas City run and drew the Roos within a pair with just under two minutes remaining, but the Tigers would close the half of a 7-2 run and take a seven-point edge into the break.
- 2H / 44-54 | LSU opened up a 12-point lead early in the second half, but Tyler Andrews found a cutting Allen in the lane for a strong finish to cut the deficit down to 10.
- 2H / 54-63 | A three-pointer by Allen at 10:21 capped a seven-point Kansas City run and brought the Roos within single digits for the first time since the 18:42 mark in the second half.
- 2H / 61-66 | Allen knocked down another three-pointer on an assist from Mitchell, and proceeded to hit two-of-four free throws on a pair of trips to the stripe, making it a five-point game.

- 2H / 63-70 | Mitchell found Allen in the fast break for an alley-oop dunk to cut the lead down to seven after the under-four media timeout. However, the Tigers finished the game on a four-point run to seal the game.
STATS TO NOTE
- Allen's 19 points marks a career-high, besting his previous high of 14 from the season opener. He has now reached double-digits in both games to open up the season after reaching that mark just once last year.
- The three-pointer by Allen with 10:21 remaining in the game was the first of his Kansas City career in 20 attempts.
- Idiaru's 10-rebound performance is the first ten-board showing by a Kansas City true-freshman against a Division One opponent since Josiah Allick pulled down 13 against Grand Canyon on Jan. 19, 2020.
- After shooting 9-of-17 (52.9%) from the free throw line in the season-opener against Lincoln, the Roos hit 21-of-27 (77.8%) free shots tonight.
- The Roos earned their keep in the paint, outscoring the Tigers 16-10 inside the lane in the first half and finishing the game with 26 paint points.
- Mitchell dished out a career-high five assists on the night, and came within one of his career-rebounding mark, grabbing six.

Kansas City has another road challenge on Friday, traveling to Champaign, Ill. for a meeting with No. 23 Illinois, the Roos' first meeting with a nationally-ranked opponent since taking on No. 2 Kansas on Dec. 14, 2019. The Illini opened their season with a 87-57 win over Eastern Illinois on Monday evening.
