Kazuki Kimura added to his team-leading goal tally and Arne Neufang found the net as well in the win
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Men's Soccer used a potent attack to come away with a victory in their final home game of the 2022 season, defeating St. Thomas, 2-0. The Roos honored seniors Philipp Basara, Cooper Clark, Kotaro Hirokawa, Kazuki Kimura, Arne Neufang and Hugo von Reis prior to the match, and they stole the show in the match. Kimura and Neufang reached the score sheet, while Clark posted a shutout.
KEY MOMENTS
- 4' / 0-0 | Kimura had the first chance of the evening, playing a ball to Basara atop the box. Basara played a one-touch pass back to Kimura, who found a gap towards the goal, taking a shot that was saved out of bounds for a corner kick.
- 8' / 0-0 | Clark was tested early as the Tommies made a run up the left side of the field. A shot was sent to the upper-left corner, but Clark blocked the ball out of bounds. St. Thomas earned another shot on the ensuing corner, a header that settled right into Clark's arms.
- 21' / 0-0 | The Roos got three-straight chances on goal, the first a shot by Arne Neufang. Kansas City maintained possession, finding Basara in the box. Basara took a shot from right outside the six-yard box, retrieved the rebound and sent another shot that was blocked out of bounds.
- 36' / 0-0 | A great pass was made into the box by Edson Murguia, finding Yahel Anderson-Gonzalez towards the goal. It looked like Anderson-Gonzalez had a clear look at goal, but a Tommie defender swooped in at the last second to block it out on the sideline. Murguia got the ball after the next throw-in, taking a shot from the edge of the box on the right side that was saved once again.
- 42' / 1-0 | Kansas City got on the board as Christian Koffi drew the attention of the defense, playing a ball out towards Murguia. Murguia approached the ball and sent it directly into the box, finding Kimura, who used his left foot to ping the ball past the keeper and into the top netting.

- 84' / 2-0 | A long throw in resulted in an opportunity for St. Thomas on the left side of the box, as a ball was headed towards goal. Clark was in the right position, reaching up and making an easy save and securing the shutout.
- 90' / 2-0 | The final chance of the day came in the counter-attack for Kansas City as Zach Nichols pushed out ahead of the crowd, centering the ball for Garret Nevshemal. Nevshemal sent a blast towards goal, but it ricocheted off the woodwork.
