Kansas City used a big first half run to create separation in the first test before the regular season
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Men's Basketball got a warmup under its belt against a strong Langston squad this evening, defeating the Lions, 78-63. The Roos dominated in the first half, outscoring Langston by 23 points and holding the Lions to 23.8% shooting. Anderson Kopp showed his veteran leadership for Kansas City, leading the Roos with 25 points on 5-of-6 three-point shooting.
KEY MOMENTS
- 1H / 3-0 | Allen David Mukeba Jr. won the tipoff, Shemarri Allen drove the lane and kicked out to RayQuawndis Mitchell, who knocked down a corner three on the first shot of the game. Mitchell would proceed to score eight of the Roos' first 10 points.
- 1H / 19-12 | Kopp's defense forced a Langston turnover and he booked it to the other end of the court, where Allen found him at the top of the key for a wide-open three-pointer. The triple forced a Langston timeout and sparked an 18-0 Kansas City run that included two more Kopp threes.
- 1H / 42-14 | Ball movement around the key led Babacar Diallo to find Precious C. Idiaru on the left wing for a three-pointer that extended the Roos' lead to 28.

- 2H / 55-32 | After Langston opened the half on a 9-7 run, Shemarri Allen jumped a passing lane for his third steal of the day and found a streaking Tyler Andrews in transition. Andrews took a dribble and rose up for a two-handed jam.
- 2H / 69-56 | With Langston mounting a comeback, A. Mukeba pulled down a rebound and found Kopp in transition, pulling up for a knock-down three that extended KC's lead back out to 13.
- 2H / 76-61 | With just over a minute remaining in the contest, Kopp found a wide-open Mitchell underneath the basket for a lay-in that sealed the win for Kansas City.
STATS TO NOTE
- Tonight marked the first exhibition game played by KC since a Nov. 3, 2017 demo against Sterling College.
- Kopp's 25 points would be a career-high had it happened in a regular season game.
- Mitchell and A. Mukeba also reached double-digit scoring, notching 18 and 10 points, respectively.
- Andrews was the Roos' rebounding leader with seven, while Allen logged a team-high five assists.
- The Roos committed 27 turnovers on the night.
