The Roos will take on St. Thomas on Thursday and Western Illinois on Saturday
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Volleyball looks to close the season on a high note, traveling to St. Thomas and Western Illinois to close out the year.
Kansas City Notes
Kansas City Notes
- The best Kansas City can finish in the Summit League final standings is seventh place, where they stand now. As only the top-six teams make the conference tournament, the Roos will not qualify for postseason play.
- This will mark the Roos' first time missing postseason play since 2011, which was Coach Christi Posey's first year at the helm. The Roos went 12-17 and finished eighth in the Summit League standings.
- Should Kansas City win both matches this week, they would finish with 10 wins on the season. That would make five-straight years that KC has won double-digit matches.
- The Roos have played in nine five-set matches so far this season, posting a 3-6 record in such games. Nine five-setters is the most since 2011, when KC had 11 matches go all the way. Six five-set losses is the most in program history.
- Odyssey Warren has continued her breakout season, averaging 3.31 kills per set. That mark is 0.87 kills higher than her average last year, on over 300 more attempts. The junior currently ranks eighth in the Summit in kills per set.
- Kennedy Schritenthal has commanded the back line, digging up 4.21 attacks per set, third in the Summit.
St. Thomas Notes
- The Tommies enter Thursday's match with a 4-24 record, coming off a 3-0 sweep of Western Illinois that snapped a six-game losing streak.
- The Roos swept UST earlier this season, hitting at a 0.262 clip in the match. Warren led KC with 13 kills while Carly Gillen posted 11.
- The Roos hold a 3-0 advantage against the Tommies all-time and have yet to drop a single set in their meetings.
- St. Thomas limits opponents to just 1.73 blocks per set, the best rate in the Summit League. On the other side, they post 1.82 blocks per set, which ranks eighth in the league.
- Lauren Galvin averages 3.16 kills per set to lead the Tommies' attack.
Western Illinois Notes
- After a four-game winning streak at the beginning of September, Western Illinois has lost its past 19 matches, including all 16 in Summit League play.
- The Leathernecks are looking to avoid being the fourth team in the past ten years to go winless in Summit play (UND, 2021; SDSU, 2017; SDSU; 2014).
- During the 19-match losing streak, WIU has won just four sets, including one in the Sep. 27 meeting in Kansas City. The Roos were led by Odyssey Warren with 20 kills in that match.
- Brittany Wulf leads the Leathernecks with an average of 3.15 kills per set.
