Kansas City posted 21 more kills than the Golden Eagles, winning in five sets
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Volleyball earned its third five-set victory of the year, and its first of Summit League play this afternoon, outlasting Oral Roberts, 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-12). The Roos used career days from Odyssey Warren, Raina Smith and Sydney Henry to come back from a 2-1 deficit and emerge victorious.
KEY MOMENTS
- S1 / 9-7 | Henry found Kimora Whetstone on a quick attack in the middle, glancing the shot off the block and down for a kill to give KC a two-point edge early.
- S1 / 14-11 | Warren made her presence felt early, giving the Roos a three-point run by herself with a block and back-to-back kills.
- S1 / 18-13 | Henry made a diving dig on a tipped ball by the Golden Eagles, finding Rachel Sturdevant, who sent a pass to Smith for a kill that rolled off the top of the net.
- S1 / 25-23 | The Roos finished a tightly-contested first set with a kill from Henry to claim the early lead.
- S2 / 7-9 | A kill by Sturdevant brought the Roos within a pair, but ORU responded with a 12-5 run to take control of the set.
- S2 / 13-21 | Henry set up Smith on the outside, who tipped the ball over the block and down for a kill, sparking three-straight kills for Smith and six-straight points for the Roos.

- S3 / 12-13 | An extended rally saw digs by Leah Green, Warren and Henry, setting up a pass from Kennedy Schritenthal to Warren for a tipped kill that brought the Roos within a point.

- S3 / 19-19 | Peyton Van Nest stood to dig a strong swing by ORU, setting up an angle shot by Warren that tied things up late.
- S3 / 21-21 | Georgia Mullins sent across a kill to tie things up once again, but the Golden Eagles ended the set on a 4-0 run.
- S4 / 11-10 | Neither team gained an advantage of more than two in the first 20 points of the fourth set, and a kill by Warren gave KC the one-point advantage.
- S4 / 18-15 | The Roos came out of the media timeout and won four-straight points, using kills by Smith and Warren and a double-block by Whetstone and Sturdevant.
- S4 / 25-20 | Henry was all over the court, making two digs to keep the Roos alive, and Green set Warren up for the kill to force a fifth set.
- S5 / 3-0 | The Roos took the first three points of the decisive fifth set, using a kill by Mullins and then a double-block by Mullins and Carly Gillen.

- S5 / 10-6 | Schritenthal made a dig on a big swing to keep the point alive and Warren out of the back row for the kill to give the Roos a four-point edge.
- S5 / 12-11 | After ORU went on a five-point run to claim a lead, a kill by Mullins and an ace by Green forced the Golden Eagles into a timeout.
- S5 / 15-12 | The Roos finished the match by winning five of the final six points.
STATS TO NOTE
- Warren finished with 22 kills and 15 digs, her seventh double-double of the year. Her mark of 22 kills is a career-high, besting her 21-kill performance against Saint Louis earlier this season.
- Henry posted 31 assists and 18 digs, both of which led the team and are career-high marks. The double-double was her fifth of the year.
- Smith went for 21 kills on 0.349 hitting, the most kills of her career. Her previous career-high came just nine days ago, a 16-kill showing against South Dakota State.
- Van Nest also posted a double-double, finishing with 29 assists and 11 digs.
- Mullins notched 11 kills, her fourth double-digit kill performance of the season and second in three matches.
- The Roos posted 86 digs as a team, a season high. It is the most by the program since KC went for 89 digs in a five-set win over Memphis on Sept. 11, 2021.
