Volleyball's Win Streak Ends at Kansas

Odyssey Warren ended with a team-high 13 kills, including five in a first set victory
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Service errors plagued Kansas City Volleyball this evening, resulting in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-18) loss at the hands of Kansas. The loss snaps an eight-game win streak, the fourth-longest in program history.
KEY MOMENTS
- S1 | De'Janae Arnold got the Roos started early, coming around on a slide attack to put the Roos up 7-4.
- S1 | The Roos' veteran core of Maddie Renn, Alli Schomers and Melanie Brecka teamed up for the dig, assist and kill to give KC an 11-8 advantage.
- S1 | A violent Odyssey Warren attack out of the middle was her third kill in five points and put the Roos up 19-14.
- S1 | The Roos went back to Warren to end the set, giving Kansas City a first set victory.
- S2 | A kill from Carly Gillen put the Roos up 4-2 early.
- S2 | The teams continued to trade points back-and-forth, with the Roos tying things up on a kill by Brecka.
- S2 | A 5-1 run gave Kansas a 16-12 lead and poised them to take the second set.
- S3 | Arnold and Brecka teamed up with a big block for the Roos to tie things up at 4-4 early in the third set.
- S3 | Raina Smith took advantage of a Jayhawk overpass for a kill, putting the Roos up 9-8.
- S3 | A marathon point was ended by a kill for Warren to put an end to a KU run and bring the Roos within five, 16-11.
- S3 | After the Roos drew within two on a Brecka kill, two-straight points for Kansas gave them the third set.
- S4 | Warren used a sharp angle for a kill to give KC an 8-7 lead early in the fourth set.
- S4 | Schomers sent across a knuckleball ace to tie the set up, 13-13.
- S4 | Kansas ended the set on a 12-5 run to win the match.
STATS TO NOTE
- Kansas City sent across five service aces, but 15 errors throughout the match hurt their chances.
- Warren led the Roos with 13 total kills, tallying five of them in the first set victory.
- Renn was the only Roo to reach double-digit digs, picking up 15 Kansas attacks.
- Gillen led Kansas City in the block, finishing with four block assists.
UP NEXT
The Roos remain in Lawrence tomorrow, taking on Albany at 5 p.m. The Great Danes enter the day 3-7 and will also take on Missouri State at noon.
