Ugass was an MGBCA 4A All-Star and Initially Signed at LSU
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - This afternoon, Kansas City Women's Basketball Head Coach Jacie Hoyt announced the addition of Tamia Ugass, a 6'3 freshman from Roseville Area Senior High School. The Minnesota-native comes to Kansas City after initially signing with the SEC's LSU.
"We couldn't be more thrilled with the addition of Tamia. Her post presence is the last piece to the puzzle we felt like we needed in this recruiting class. Her mobility for her size is special and will fit perfectly with the up-tempo transition style we want to play. She has great hands, great feel around the rim, and we love how she can be physical in the low post as well as step out and extend the floor with her shooting ability," Coach Hoyt said.
Ugass was a standout over her four years in high school, tallying a 77% win-percentage at Roseville. As a senior, she was named an MGBCA 4A All-Star. She also earned the 2021 Athena Award, which recognizes exceptional female student-athletes in the St. Paul area. She averaged 18.3 points per game, including a game-high 38 points vs. East Ridge High School. In her junior year, Ugass averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds, and nearly a block per game, while also earning her 1,000th career-rebound and a nod on the Honorable Mention Minnesota 4A All-State team.
As a sophomore, she recorded her 1,000th career-point after scoring 20 points in a win against Park Cottage Grove. Her impact was felt her freshman year as she poured in 8.2 points per game while leading her team to a 3rd Place finish at the 4A state tournament. Ugass finished her career ranked as a Top-10 prospect overall and the 2nd-ranked center in the state of Minnesota by Prep Girls Hoops.
Ugass will be sixth addition to the 2020-2021 signing class and the third freshman, joining freshman signees Landry Williams and Halle Duft and three transfers, Kiara Bradley, Dani Winslow, and Nyjah White.
