Vale, Xibilia pick up victories in the loss
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After a series of delays and a relocation of the match, Kansas City Tennis and Wichita State were finally able to play at the KC Racquet Club this afternoon, with the Roos falling 4-2.
"The girls fought hard today and we had our chances, for sure," Head Coach Kendell Hale said. "It came down to a few third sets and big points. Hats off to Wichita State, who won more of those big points than we did today."
Michela Xibilia continued her hot streak, winning 6-2, 6-3 for her seventh win in eight matches. This was her first win at the four singles spot after having played in the five spot for most of the season.
Thanushree Vale picked up a big decision in two singles, winning in a third set tiebreaker. After dropping the first set 3-6, Vale came back and won the second, 6-3. In the third set, she held a 5-2 lead, but WSU's Bellucco made a roaring comeback to force a tiebreak. Vale was able to outlast Belluco, winning 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
In the five and six singles spots, Grace Ball and Anastassiya Timofeyeva were each able to push their matches to three sets, but were not able to secure the victory.
The Roos return to Summit League action on Sunday, with a Senior Day match against Oral Roberts set to be played at 2 p.m.
