KC Tennis Earns Their 4th Conference Win
Kansas City, MO. During their final home game Kansas City Tennis earned a hard fought victory over Oral Roberts marking the Roos fourth conference win. After tough doubles action had the Oral Roberts Eagles taking the early point, numerous Roos shined in their singles matches sealing the win for Kansas City's final score 5-2.Â
Senior Yana Grechkina with doubles partner Michela Xibilia battled and finessed through their match defeating the Eagles 6-5. Oral Roberts obtained wins on the second and third doubles spots to earn the first point of the match.Â
Heading into singles the Roos would dominate through several tough battles and gripping tiebreakers to earn the victory. Competing at the number two spot, Senior Thanushree Vale made her mark with tough serves and great backhand line placements finishing 6-4, 6-1. Riddhi Sharma followed with earning a powerful two set win 6-1, 6-1. Michela Xibilia took an early first set 6-0 and was forced to a third where she muscled to a successful 6-2 finish.
Needing one more point to secure the win, Roos Eva Kresovic and Grace Ball continued playing adjacent to each others courts in their single match thrillers. Eva Kresovic would challenge her opponent in the first set scoring 6-7 pushing to the tiebreaker falling just short 5-7. Continuing into set two action, Kresovic moved into the next gear earning the 6-4 win and forcing the third set. After a back and forth with strong serve receive, Eva Kresovic triumphed finishing the third set 6-4 putting the Roos on top.Â
In an exhilarating three hour match, Senior Grace Ball played a mighty three set battle including a tiebreaker to culminate a memorable Senior Day victory. Ball played tactfully with deep placements in the court forcing her Eagles opponent to adjust on numerous points throughout the match. Ball would earn the first set win 7-5. After a close loss in the second set 4-6 and the last match of the day, Senior Grace Ball took to the third set with great serve receive earning each point steadily. Closing in on the finish, the Eagles would respond forcing the tiebreaker. Grace Ball took the tiebreaker in stride outlasting her opponent with persistence and strong returns ending in a 7-4 tiebreaker win.Â
"It was great to pull this one out for the seniors! This is a great group of girls that were predicted at the beginning of the year to be 4th in conference. They played a majority of the season with a chip on their shoulder. This is the stuff that makes a coach proud!", said Head Coach Kendell Hale on the senior day victory.Â
Kansas City Tennis will play their final conference match at Omaha, next Friday April 17th at 3p.m. For more information on Kansas City Tennis, go to www.kcroos.com and follow on social @kcroostennis.Â
