The Roos will take on South Dakota in the Semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m.
What to Know:
- At 13-3, Kansas City finished the regular season with its best winning percentage (.813) since 2014, and the second-best winning percentage in program history.
- Melanie Brecka has been the Roos' rock this year, leading the team in kills in every match. Her current season average of 4.1 kills per set ranks fifth in program history and is the most since Vanessa Portela averaged 4.42 per set in the 2005 season. Her mark is good for second in the Summit League and 50th in the nation.
- Alli Schomers has followed up her 2019 WAC Setter of the Year campaign with another incredible season, averaging 10.3 assists per set. That ranks second in the Summit League and 47th nationwide.
- Brecka, Schomers and Alex Ratzlaff have been double-double machines this season. Brecka and Ratzlaff each have team-leading nine on the year, followed by Schomers with seven.
- Ratzlaff has also been the Roos' most deadly server and most prominent receiver. She is currently averaging 0.4 aces per set, fourth in the Summit League, and has received 637 serves at a .959 conversion rate.
- Maddie Renn has been the crutch of Kansas City's back line, averaging a team-leading 4.4 digs per set. Her efforts have twice earned her Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors, including after a career-high 27-dig performance at South Dakota on March 19.
- Odyssey Warren and Ashia Dorsey have impressed in their freshman seasons, working their way into the lineup as consistent starters. Warren is currently averaging 2.4 kills per set, third on the team, while Dorsey has a 34 total blocks on the year, good for second on the squad.
- De'Janae Arnold has led the team from the middle, averaging a team-leading 0.9 blocks per set (seventh in the Summit) and hitting at a .284 clip (ninth in the Summit).
- This year will mark Head Coach Christi Posey's eighth with a winning record, and her third year in a row. Posey has been at the helm for eight of the Roos' nine winning seasons in program history. She also notched her 150th career victory this season in a 3-1 win over Western Illinois on Feb. 15.
- The Roos are no stranger to fifth sets this season, playing to a full match seven times. Kansas City has won in the fifth set six of the seven times, with the lone loss coming to Omaha on Feb. 7.
Against the Competition:
South Dakota
- Kansas City picked up a season-sweep of USD for the first time in program history this year, winning both matches in five sets. Melanie Brecka and Maddie Renn had outstanding performances, sweeping Summit Player of the Week honors afterwards.
- Denver is the lone team to sweep the Roos this year, winning both matches 3-0. The Pioneers held KC to a season-low 29 kills on Mar. 27.
Omaha
- The Roos and Mavs swept their season series, with both matches going five sets. In the Feb. 8 win, Alex Ratzlaff posted career-highs with 27 digs and seven service aces.
