KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Men's Soccer held strong with Denver for 56 minutes before the floodgates opened on Thursday evening, falling to the Pioneers, 4-1.
Denver struck first in the second minute, opening a 1-0 lead. However, the Roos' defense shored up after, and the match seemed to be evenly played with each team finding its opportunities.
In the 20th minute, Ryan Khedoo took possession on the right side of the box, using skillful moves to confuse the Pioneers' defender and drawing a foul. Jony Munoz stepped in to take the penalty kick, misdirecting Denver's keeper and tying the match.
The rest of the first half was played to a draw, with Denver outshooting the Roos 9-8 and Cooper Clark making six saves in goal.Â
The beginning of the second half seemed to be a continuation of the first, until Denver opened a lead in the 56th minute. The Pioneers then added back-to-back goals in the 64th and 66th minutes to put the game out of reach.
Kansas City finished with 11 shots, placing six on frame. Kevin Komodi led the squad with four shots, putting two on the goal. Muñoz pulled the trigger for three shots, including his 20th minute goal.
The Roos will have another chance at the Pioneers on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Roo Sports Network.
