Franck Kamgain and Zion Williams each scored career-highs and Brandon McKissic dished out eight assists to lead the Roos
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Franck Kamgain and Zion Williams each scored their Kansas City career-highs, Brandon McKissic dished out eight assists to match his career-high, and the Roos (11-10, 7-5) defeated Denver (2-17, 1-11), 80-69.Â
The Roos forced turnovers early and often, finding Josiah Allick inside for six quick points. Then, Kamgain found his stride. He entered the game in a cold stretch, but caught fire in this one, knocking down 4-of-7 three point attempts en route to 23 points, his most in a Kansas City uniform.Â
Similar to last night, foul trouble late in the first half caused issues for the Roos. Williams, McKissic, Allick and Marvin Nesbitt Jr. all picked up two fouls and were forced to sit for the end of the half, allowing Denver to stay in the game. The Roos led by one going into the half, forcing 10 Pioneer turnovers but allowing Denver to shoot 61% from the field.
The Roos extended their lead to five points going into the under-16 media timeout, and continued to pile on for the remainder of the game.
After playing just six minutes in the first half for two points and zero rebounds, Williams took over in the second. He finished the game with a career-high 14 points in his final game in the Swinney Center, adding seven rebounds.
McKissic ran the offense as well as he has in his career, finding teammates for eight assists. He added 16 points to reach double-digits for the 15th straight game, and led the Roos with three steals. McKissic now has 1,148 in his career, good for the ninth-best in program history.
After a career-high 20-point showing yesterday, Marvin Nesbitt Jr. was relatively quiet on the offensive end tonight, scoring just one point. However, he pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists before fouling out of the game.
Allick finished the night with 13 points and five boards, Pitts added seven and seven, and Caden Boser dropped a pair of threes to round out the Roos' scoring.
Following the game, McKissic, Nesbitt Jr., Williams and Arkel Lamar were all honored after their final game in Kansas City.Â
The Roos are back in action next weekend in Brookings, S.D., where they will take on South Dakota State on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. to round out the regular season. On a five-game winning streak, the Roos currently sit in fifth place in the Summit League standings, but are just a pair of games behind North Dakota State in second place.
