KC Hosts Top Competition to Begin Conference Play

The Roos welcome South Dakota State and South Dakota to town for the start of Summit League competition
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Following a 10-1 start in non-conference play, Kansas City Women's Basketball hosts South Dakota State tomorrow at 6 p.m. and South Dakota on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The two teams were ranked first and second in the Summit League Preseason Poll.
Kansas City Notes
- Kansas City brings the best start in program history into conference play, entering on a 10-game win streak, which is tied with the 1990-91 Roos for the longest in program history. For reference, the Roos were 3-4 in non-con last year.
- Kansas City has started the same five players in each contest so far this season. Each of those five rank top-10 in the Summit and top-100 in the nation in at least one category.
- The Roos have won games in a variety of ways, but are a perfect 4-0 when shooting above 40% from beyond the three-point arc. On the year, the Roos are knocking down threes at a 38.9% clip, which is the 10th-best mark in the nation.
- As of Dec. 19, the Roos are one of just 15 teams in Division One with 10-plus wins. They join Liberty and Massachusetts as the only non-Power Five teams in that category.
- The Kansas City home crowd has showed up to support the Roos this season. The Roos average 35.1% capacity at home games, which ranks 25th in the nation.
Last Time vs. South Dakota State
- Kansas City made a 10-point comeback in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to defeat the Jackrabbits in a 72-66 decision.
- Naomie Alnatas dropped 19 points, while Paige Bradford posted a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double.
- The Roos held SDSU to just 23% shooting in the final quarter as they attempted the comeback.
Series History vs. South Dakota State
- The Jackrabbits own a 15-1 advantage in the all-time series, including 10-straight wins.
- The Roos' lone win over South Dakota State came on Jan. 11, 2010 in Kansas City, a 67-64 decision.
- There has been just one overtime game in series history, a 78-77 SDSU win in the 2012 Summit League Championship.
South Dakota State Scouting Report
- The Jackrabbits shook off a three-game losing streak last week with a dominant win over Dakota Wesleyan.
- Myah Selland has played in just four games, but averages a team-high 10.3 points in her appearances.
Last Time vs. South Dakota
- Kansas City was outmatched by South Dakota last season, falling in a 53-80 decision on Jan. 9.
- RaVon Nero was the lone Roo to reach double-digits, dropping 12 points.
- Chloe Lamb had a game-high 22 points.
Series History vs. South Dakota
- The two sides are even in the all-time series, tied 4-4.
- South Dakota has taken the three most recent meetings, with the Roos' last win coming on Jan. 12, 2013 in a 60-56 decision.
- Of the eight meetings all-time, five have been decided by more than 20 points.

- The Coyotes enter league play on a five-game winning streak, including wins over Pitt, Wichita State and Creighton.
- South Dakota was ranked 21st in the most recent College Insider Mid-Major Poll.
- The Coyotes force, 19.2 turnovers per game, a mark that paces the Summit.
- Chloe Lamb leads South Dakota's offensive efforts, averaging 15.8 points per game.
