De'Janae Arnold led the Roos' attack with 14 kills on .355 hitting
BROOKINGS, S.D. - Kansas City Volleyball was off the mark against South Dakota State this afternoon, falling to the Jackrabbits, 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 25-21). De'Janae Arnold threw across a team-high 14 kills on .355 hitting, but it was not enough for the Roos to overcome SDSU.
KEY MOMENTS
- S1 | After a slow start put the Roos down by four, a kill by Carly Gillen sparked four-straight points by KC to tie the set up, 12-12.
- S1 | The Roos found themselves down by five late in the set, but three-straight points, capped by an Odyssey Warren kill, forced an SDSU timeout and made the score 21-19.
- S1 | Kansas City fought off three set points, but the Jackrabbits ended the set on a Crystal Burk kill.
- S2 | South Dakota State jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the second set, with a kill by Melanie Brecka ending the slide.
- S2 | The Roos battled back within three points following a kill by Warren, making the score 14-11.

- S4 | Another hot start by SDSU forced KC to use both of its timeouts by the 12-4 mark.
- S4 | Brecka notched four kills and two block assists within seven points to pull Kansas City back into the set and tie things up, 14-14.
- S4 | Kansas City fought off three match points, but it was too little, too late and the Jackrabbits pulled away for the win.
STATS TO NOTE
- The Roos were limited to .140 hitting on the day.
- After accumulating six kills and six attack errors in the first three sets, Brecka swung for six kills on .400 hitting in the final set.
- The Roos blocked 11 SDSU attacks on the day, led by Brecka and Gillen with five block assists each.
- Maddie Renn led the Roos with 18 digs. Brecka, Schritenthal, Leah Green and Alli Schomers were also in double-digits.

The Roos are on the road for one match next weekend, taking on Oral Roberts on Nov. 6. KC won a 3-0 decision in the teams' first meeting this season.
