Brecka's Big Day Not Enough Against ORU

Melanie Brecka sent across 25 kills to lead all players, but the Roos could not overcome ORU
TULSA, Okla. - Despite a season-high 25 kills from Melanie Brecka, Kansas City Volleyball could not stop a hot-hitting Oral Roberts this afternoon, falling 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 12-25, 25-20).
KEY MOMENTS
- S1 / 3-3 | Brecka showed flashes of her big day early, throwing across the Roos' first three kills.
- S1 / 10-10 | A kill by Warren tied the set up, but the Golden Eagles responded by winning the next six-straight points.
- S1 / 20-22 | The Roos drew within two on an ace by Kennedy Schritenthal, but ORU won three of the last four points to take the set.
- S2 / 12-8 | After trading points to begin the set, the Roos gained an edge by winning five-straight, capped by a block by Brecka and Carly Gillen.
- S2 / 19-15 | The Golden Eagles battled back within a point, but three-straight points on kills by Odyssey Warren and Bree Thompson put the Roos ahead by four.
- S2 / 23-23 | After ORU came soaring back into the set, a kill by Brecka tied it up, but the Golden Eagles took the final two points to win the set.
- S3 / 4-1 | The Roos got out to a hot start in the third, aided by three kills from Brecka in the first five points.

- S3 / 24-9 | The Roos rattled off seven-straight points on Schritenthal's serve to take control of the set and force set point.
- S4 / 5-3 | KC jumped out to a slight lead in the fourth thanks to kills by Brecka and De'Janae Arnold.
- S4 / 11-12 | After ORU took four-straight points, Kansas City went to Raina Smith, who sent across a kill on her first point of the day.
- S4 | 20-21 | Alli Schomers sent across an ace to bring the Roos within a point, but the Golden Eagles won the final four points to take the match.
STATS TO NOTE
- Brecka finished the night with 25 kills, one away from her career-high. She also posted 11 digs, three aces and two block assists.
- The Roos allowed Oral Roberts to hit above .250 in each of their set victories.
- Despite the loss, the Roos finished with more points, kills, aces, assists and digs than the Golden Eagles.Â
- Maddie Renn led all players with 18 digs.
