Volleyball Travels for Matchups with Western Illinois, St. Thomas

The Roos will take on WIU on Thursday at 7 p.m. and UST on Saturday at 3 p.m.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Volleyball takes to the road this weekend for matchups with Western Illinois on Thursday at 7 p.m. and St. Thomas on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Kansas City Notes
- After going 2-2 in its four-game home stretch, Kansas City Volleyball looks to improve upon its fourth-place spot in the Summit League standings at WIU and UST.
- Alli Schomers continues to dazzle in the setter position. The back-to-back Setter of the Year (2019 WAC, 2020 Summit) currently leads the conference and ranks 25th in the nation with an average of 10.7 assists per set.
- De'Janae Arnold has been a lethal attacking threat this season, swinging at a .415 clip. That mark is the 15th-best in the nation, and Arnold averages a kill for every 2.1 swings she takes.
- Arnold, alongside Melanie Brecka and Odyssey Warren, all rank top-20 in the Summit League in kills per set. Brecka leads the bunch with an average of 3.39, fifth in the conference.
- The Roos' defensive back line is one to be dealt with, averaging 15.6 digs per set. Maddie Renn leads the Roos' defense with a 4.61 digs per set average, best in the Summit.
- Bree Thompson earned her first start as a Roo in the sweep of Oral Roberts, finishing with 13 kills and four digs. She has worked her way into being a mainstay in the offense, throwing down at least 10 kills in five of the past six matches.
- The Roos' serve-receive seems to have found its stride. After averaging 6.2 receive errors in their first 13 matches, KC has committed no more than five in each of its past five matches.
Western Illinois Notes
- The Leathernecks enter the weekend with a 3-15 overall record, with two of those wins coming in Summit League play.
- While WIU owns the series lead against the Roos, 21-18, Kansas City has had the advantage in recent years, winning 10 of the last 12 meetings and the past six straight.
- Western Illinois is led in the attack by Kennedy Davis, who averages 2.58 kills per set. She swings at a .317 clip and has reached the 20-kill mark twice this season.
- Freshman Maggie Craker has stepped in as WIU's lead setter, averaging 6.3 assists per set and dishing 40 against South Dakota State on Oct. 7.
St. Thomas Notes
- St. Thomas owns a 2-15 mark in its first Division One season, including a five-set Summit League win over North Dakota. Thus far, those are the only three sets that the Tommies have won in league play.
- UST's primary attacker is Lauren Galvin, who averages 3.16 kills per set, good for seventh in the Summit. The freshman sent across a career-high 20 kills in their win over North Dakota.
- Elle Dammann holds down the middle of the net for the Tommies, averaging 0.8 blocks per set.
