KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Brandon McKissic followed up his 19 point performance on Friday with 15 points this evening, giving him 1,026 on his career. He became the 13th player in Kansas City history to surpass the 1,000 point mark with 12 scheduled games remaining in his career.
Josiah Allick added his third double-double of the season, dropping a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds, but the Roos did not have enough in the tank to overcome South Dakota, falling 68-62.
"We didn't start either half very well tonight, and that really hurt us," Head Coach Billy Donlon said. "We had it down to a one possession game on both nights, but we just couldn't get over the hump."
The Roos shot the ball well on the night, connecting on 23-of-54 attempts for a 42.6-percent clip. Demarius Pitts gave the Roos some offensive firepower, scoring seven-straight points at one point in the second half. He finished with 13 points and six rebounds, his third double-digit scoring performance of the year. The Roos needed his presence after Marvin Nesbitt Jr. went down early in the first half and did not return.
"In the last 15 minutes, Demarius started doing the things that we really need him to do," Donlon said. "He rebounded it, he got some put-backs and he defended at a high level."
With Nesbitt out, Pitts was tasked with defending the Coyotes' Stanley Umude. Umude was held to just 13 points, nearly nine points lower than his season average.
Allick impressed as well, keeping the Coyotes out of the lane for most of the night. Allick logged 37 minutes en route to the double-double, creating contact on the inside. He drew six fouls on the night and converted on 7-of-9 free throws, leading the Roos from beginning to end.
"(Allick) has played like an all-league player through four games, there's no getting around it," Donlon said. "His improvement is really remarkable."
The Roos will travel to Western Illinois next weekend for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday.
