A Statement from the Kansas City Men’s Basketball Team
As a men's basketball program, we cannot say that we have all witnessed and experienced racism and injustice.
As coaches and players, we all come from different communities and backgrounds. In the recent weeks, we all have been impacted by the current injustices in our society. We have all been affected in our hearts by what has been going on in our country right now.
These injustices have been going on for decades. Even if you can't see it, that doesn't mean it is not a huge problem in this country. We need to recognize that privilege is something that should be used for good and not evil. We feel the pain and struggle and together we seek equality and justice. Now is the time for us to be unequivocally respected and protected in our equal pursuit of life, liberty and happiness.
Racism is not born, it's taught. Black lives matter! Basketball has brought all of us, black and white men, together as a family and we are here to collectively do our part in protecting Black lives.
Change is required now!! Silence will not win. We must continue to overcome racism, inequality, and violence against us.
Sincerely,
Kansas City Men's Basketball Team
