Preview: Volleyball Prepares for KC Roos Klassic

Kansas City volleyball looks to bounce back from a five-set loss to the University of Kansas as they host Louisiana Tech, South Dakota and Tulsa in the KC Roos Klassic.
This marks the fifth straight and 12th overall KC Roos Klassic (formerly known as the Kangaroo Klassic and UMKC Kangaroo Classic). Under Coach Christi Posey, Kansas City has accumulated a 15-4 record in the Klassic, going undefeated in both 2015 & 2018. All-time, the Roos hold a 23-16 record when hosting the Klassic.
The first ever Klassic was held in 1998, hosting Morgan State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Jackson State and McNeese State. Thirty-three different schools have participated, with Arkansas State appearing the most (2004, 2008, 2018).
Kansas City welcomes two new teams to the KC Roos Klassic field in 2019. The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters and Tulsa Golden Hurricane are both participating for the first time in program history.
South Dakota was a member of the 2017 Kangaroo Klassic Field, defeating the Roos in five sets, 20-25, 25-18, 16-25, 27-25, 15-9. The Coyotes then fell to Northern Iowa and defeated Rutgers, leaving them with a 2-1 record in the Klassic.
Against Louisiana Tech, Kansas City holds a 1-1 record all time, with the most recent meeting being a straight-set win on August 30, 2008.
The Roos and the Coyotes have matched up seven times, with South Dakota holding the slight 4-3 edge. The first meeting was a 3-0 Roo victory in 2010, the most recent match was in the 2017 Klassic.
Kansas City has matched up with Tulsa 17 times in the past. The teams met two times during the Roos' inagural season in 1987 (both Tulsa victories), and most recently in 2017 (3-1, Tulsa). The Golden Hurricane own a 11-6 advantage all-time against KC.
