Kansas City, Mo. -- On a very windy day in Colorado Springs, Colo., the Roos dropped their first Western Athletic Conference match to Air Force by a score of 4-1.
It was a tale of two halves for Kansas City, as they dominated the first half and struggled in the second. In the 17th minute, freshman defender Dontell Gilyard buried a volley past the keeper on a great run and assist from Kevin Komodi (his second on the season). That goal marked Gilyard's first in his collegiate career. (Watch the goal HERE)
It looked as though the Roos would go into halftime with the lead, until Air Force found the equalizer with just one minute remaining in the first half. The Roos outshot the Falcons 5-4 in the first half and dominated possession as well.Â
The second half was a different story, as the Falcons found the back of the net three times. In the 65th minute, the falcons scored the game winner. They continued on the attack and scored two more in the span of five minutes. "A crazy five minutes of poor defending did us in during the second half," head coach Rick Benben said. "We had lots of good play and just have to lick our wounds and be ready for next weekend traveling to San Jose State Friday and Seattle on Sunday." Â
