Looking Ahead
- Kansas City Women's Soccer (4-0-2) hosts Northern Iowa (3-2-0) for the first-time ever from Durwood Soccer Stadium. First kick is 7 p.m. on Friday. Fans are encouraged to wear blue for "Roo Blue Friday!"
- The Roos and Panthers do battle for just the second-time in history with the lone meeting occurring back on Sept. 4, 2009 in the program's first-ever season. Northern Iowa won 6-1 in Waterloo, Iowa.
- Northern Iowa will be the fifth Missouri Valley Conference opponent the Roos have faced this year. Thus far, Kansas City is 2-0-2 against the MVC.
- Amongst 335 NCAA Division I programs, Kansas City is just one of 33 teams without a loss. The Roos are sitting on a school-best start to the year at 4-0-2.
- The Roos defense has allowed just three goals in six games (.50 gapg), which ranks in the Top 50 in the NCAA stat rankings.
- With three shutouts to begin the year, the Roos have now compiled 13 shutouts through 27 games dating back to last year. The two shutouts in the first two games of the year is a first in the 11-year history of the women's soccer program.
- With a 4-0-2 non-conference mark this year, the Roos stand 12-3-2 in non-conference contests since 2018 (not including WAC postseason tournament).
- Northern Iowa is 3-2-0 having won its last two games by a combined 8-1 score. The Panthers faced a familiar Kansas City opponent in WAC-member Chicago State and came away with a 5-0 win on Aug. 22. The team averages three goals per game.
- Individually, Jordyn Rolli leads the team in goals (4) and points (10) on just six shots-on-goal. Sydney Hayden is the club leader with three assists.
Pacific Region Rankings
- In the second edition of the 2019 NCAA Pacific Region rankings (Sept. 3), the Roos were ranked No. 9. It marked the second-straight year Kansas City was listed in the region rankings, reaching to as high as No. 8 last season. UCLA, the No. 1 team in the region, landed the No. 2 position in the national Top 25 Poll. Stanford and USC follow in the same order in the region and are Nos. 3 and No. 4, respectively, in the nation. Kansas City was not listed in the Sept. 10th edition.
Record Watch
- Three Roos find themselves climbing the Kansas City Women's Soccer Record Book on the career chart: sophomore Rylan Childers, sophomore Afton Fennewald and senior Erin Roth. See page four for details.
Last Time Out
- On Sunday, Sept. 8, Kansas City and Drake ended in a 1-1 double-overtime draw in Des Moines, Iowa. Heading into the second half with a 0-0 tie, Drake struck first with a goal by Olivia Bruce in the 51st minute. Her goal was assisted by Libby Helverson. About eight minutes later, the Roos hit pay dirt with the tying marker. Kansas City freshman Lindsey Prokop took a pass from Rylan Childers and scored her third career goal in the 59th minute. Childers posted her second season assist and conference-leading 10th point.
Looking Ahead
- The Roos welcome Creighton for a weekday non-conference game on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. There will be free tacos and a Roo Patio Party.
