Comeback victory vs. Western Illinois sends Roos to a 4-0 hot start

Kansas City, Mo. -- The Roos Women's Soccer team continues to make program history, as the squad downed Western Illinois this afternoon in a thrilling 3-1 comeback victory.

"I am extremely excited to start the season 4-0 for the first time in program history," said head coach Chris Cissell. "Extremely proud of this team!"

The Roos found themselves down in the first half for the first time all season, allowing a goal in the 18th minute. A foul on Kansas City led to a free kick in the attacking zone for the Western Illinois. Leathernecks F Lauryn Peters sent a cross into the box that found MF Carolina Gomes, after being deflected, for a goal past Roos GK Erin Roth. The Roos offense was shutout in the first half, despite putting up 11 shots.

"We did not play our best in the first half, but I am extremely proud of the coach-ability of this team," said head coach Chris Cissell. "We were able to handle the adversity and make some adjustments at halftime, then come back out and win the second half and the game."

In the second half, the Roos came out energized and hungry to score.

In the 53rd minute, D Halle Hamilton was fouled in the box, setting up a PK. MF Rylan Childers stepped up and buried the PK to even the score 1-1.

Later, in the 64th minute, freshman F Lindsey Prokop found great position in the box and put one into the net. D Halle Hamilton sent a beautiful cross for the assist, putting the Roos up 2-1.

In the 87th minute, Rylan Childers sealed the deal with another PK goal, her second of the game and fourth on the young season.
