Kansas City Weekend Notes
- Newly ranked No. 9 in the NCAA Pacific Region this week, the Kansas City Women's Soccer team travels for the first time in 2019. The Roos head to Missouri State (2-1-0) on Friday and finish off with Drake (0-4-0) on Sunday.
- Kansas City stands undefeated this year (4-0-0) and is off to its best start in school history. The Roos defense has allowed just two goals in four games (.50 gapg), while the offense has notched eight markers.
- With two shutouts to begin the year, the Roos have now compiled 12 shutouts through 25 games dating back to last year. The two shutouts to begin the year is a first in the 11-year history of the women's soccer program.
- Last season, Kansas City won it's second-straight WAC regular-season championship and finished 16-5-0.
- Sophomore All-American Rylan Childers gathered the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 2. The honor is the second-straight for a Roo this year – Liz Mann collected the defensive award last week – and this marks Childers' third career weekly recognition. In two matches last week, Rylan added three more goals to her resume during wins over Western Illinois and Eastern Illinois. She now leads the conference in goals (4) and points (9). Dating back to last season, Childers has scored a goal in seven of her last nine games.
- With a 4-0 non-conference mark this year, the Roos stand 12-3 in non-conference contests since 2018 (not including WAC postseason tournament).
- Missouri State (2-1-0) has won two-straight matches after dropping its season-opener. Six different Bears have found the back of the net. Anna Durnin and Ashley Coonfield lead the club with three points each. In the all-time series, Missouri State leads 2-7-1 overall, but in the last five games, the teams have matched up to a 2-2-1 tune. Games played in Springfield, the Bears own a 1-4-0 record.
- Drake enters weekend play against South Dakota State on Friday with an 0-4-0 record. The Bulldogs are looking for its first goal of the year, being out-scored 8-0. Drake leads the series against Kansas City by a 5-2-1 count. In games played in Des Moines, Iowa, the Bulldogs have taken three of four overall.
- In the second edition of the 2019 NCAA Pacific Region rankings (Sept. 3), the Roos were ranked No. 9. It marked the second-straight year Kansas City was listed in the region rankings, reaching to as high as No. 8 last season. UCLA, the No. 1 team in the region, landed the No. 2 position in the national Top 25 Poll. Stanford and USC follow in the same order in the region and are Nos. 3 and No. 4, respectively, in the nation.
