SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – In its first road game of the season, Kansas City Women's Soccer (4-0-1) played to a 0-0 double overtime tie at Missouri State (2-1-1) tonight at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium. The Roos put on seven shots-on-goal compared to zero by Missouri State, but couldn't cash in against Bears goalkeeper Kaitlin Maxwell. The two OT contest, which ended with zero combined goals, is a Kansas City first since Oct. 14, 2016 in the 0-0 draw against Grand Canyon.
Sophomore forward Emily Jensen notched her first start of the year and took advantage with a season-high three shots-on-goal to lead the Roos offense. In fact, Jensen's attempt at the net in the 68th minute was the final shot-on-goal in the contest for either team. In her previous four contests, she did not record a shot-on-target.
Four other Kansas City players finished with one shot-on-goal.
"I'm extremely proud of the girls and how everyone competed tonight in their first road trip against a Missouri Valley Conference team," said head coach Chris Cissell, who was not with the team for the first time in his nine-year Kansas City career due to a family emergency. "I want to give credit to associate head coach Jeff Cole for his leadership and putting together a solid game plan to come away with the hard-fought tie. Unfortunately, we didn't finish our chances tonight. We created some quality scoring opportunities and played good enough to remain undefeated."
Senior goalkeeper Erin Roth collected her second shutout in three starts this year and now holds a 0.31 goals against average this year (one goal allowed in 290 minutes). Overall, the Roos defense has tallied three shutouts in five matches this season.
