"There are two things that I believe make our schedule great this season," said third-year head coach Jacie Hoyt. "The first is the level of competition we face in the non-conference. There is no doubt we will be battle-tested right off the bat in our home-opener as well as competing in the WNIT. For the third year in-a-row, we play the likes of Big 12, SEC, and potentially Pac 12 opponents. I love giving our players those experiences to compete against Power 5 schools.
"The second thing that makes our schedule so unique is the amount of home games we have for our fans, not to mention hosting K-State and Mizzou. That caliber of competition at home is something that is rarely done at this level."
Kansas City will open their season with a home exhibition match against Northwest Missouri State on October 29 at 6 p.m.. Beginning regular-season play a week later, the Roos will take on Denver for the third year in-a-row, seeking revenge for last year's defeat. The 5 p.m. match-up is the first of two games played that evening, with the Kansas City men's team tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
For the first time in program history, the Roos will participate in the preseason WNIT, held from November 8-17. They will open play Nov. 8 in Stockton, Calif., against the University of the Pacific for the first meeting in school history. The Tigers were 19-13 last year, advancing to the postseason WNIT second round. The rest of the field is comprised of teams such as Oregon State, DePaul, Missouri State, Portland State and Boise State, all of whom qualified for the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
After the preseason WNIT, Kansas City has a two-game home stand and a three-game road swing. The highlight during that stretch is a home tussle with cross-town rival Rockhurst University on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. The Roos own a 10-3 series mark against the Hawks and it will be the first meeting since 2014.
Sixteen of the Roos' 17 home games will be played at Swinney Center on the campus of UMKC, including a December 8th matchup versus Missouri. The lone outlier will be played on December 14th as they take on Kansas State at Municipal Auditorium at 1 p.m. Both coach Hoyt and assistant coach Kindred Orpin have K-State ties – Hoyt was an assistant there for three seasons (2014-17), while Orpin had a memorable four-year playing career from 2013-17.
Before the calendar year ends, Kansas City will host the Roo Holiday Classic, which will bring Bradley, Liberty and Eastern Kentucky to town on December 20 & 21.
The Roos will lift the lid on their last season of Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play in Washington against Seattle U on January 2nd. They will close the regular season similarly, taking on the Redhawks on March 2 at the Swinney Center. The conference slate has 16 contests with the top eight seeds earning a berth to the postseason.
"I am excited to showcase this year's team on our new court design and improved game atmosphere," continued Hoyt. "I believe our fans will feel the energy and excitement from our team and overall athletic department as we continue to carry momentum forward."
The WAC Tournament is scheduled March 11-14 in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena. The Roos are coming off a postseason in which they collected their highest seed (No. 4) and were one victory away from the championship contest.

Season Notables:
- Beginning her third season, head coach Jacie Hoyt holds a 27-34 (.443) career record. In 2018-19, she led the Roos to their first winning season since 2011-12.
- As a team last year, the Roos ranked No. 25 in the NCAA in scoring (76.0), due in large part to All-WAC Newcomer Ericka Mattingly. The senior-to-be became the first player in conference history to lead the league in points, assists and steals. Kansas City's line-up currently has six returners and six newcomers.
- The 2019-20 season marks the 33rd season of NCAA Division I women's basketball at Kansas City.
- The all-time Kansas City record stands at 440-624 (.414).
- Coach Hoyt is seeking to take the Roos to new heights. A .500-or-better record this year would mark the first back-to-back seasons of .500-or-better since the 2002-03 (14-14 record) & 2003-04 (15-14) campaigns.
